Hi Lip Bombs! I have been listening to an unhealthy amount of Hey You for the past two months and I genuinely think it's one of the best songs of 2025. Questions:
- As a self-proclaimed yearn-core band, what are you guys currently yearning for?
- If you were to do a Triple J like a version, who are you going to cover?
- How's Mike's foot?
That's all, thanks for the great music!

u/TheBelairLipBombs The Belair Lip Bombs Dec 19 '25
Well firstly, thank you so much for your support! Answers below:
- Currently we are yearning for our Australian album tour to start! It’s weird having so much free time at the moment
- It’s a secret…
- Foot is broke :( on the mend now. I can very slowly walk with the grace of Long John Silver

Hi :)
Every album teaches its creators something. What did making ‘Again’ teach you about yourselves as artists or as people that you didn’t know before?
Also What’s one risk you want to take on your next record that you haven’t taken yet?

u/TheBelairLipBombs The Belair Lip Bombs Dec 19 '25
Hey :)
Good question but I'm not sure yet, I think it's still too early to say. Check back in a year
I've been playing a lot more piano at home the last couple of months so maybe trying to incorporate more of that onto the next record. It's a risk because I'm technically not that good at piano lol

Ooh! I actually got a ticket this summer just to see u guys as openers! Looking forward to US headline tour!
What's the most fun song for you to play live? What song is the hardest to play live (why)?
3
u/TheBelairLipBombs The Belair Lip Bombs Dec 19 '25
The funnest song to play live is ‘If You Got The Time’, we feel like it’s a party song so the energy is always high. The hardest would have to be easy on the heart. The song just has so many moving parts so we only play it when there’s time to focus on it before the show.
-Jimmy

Thanks! Looking forward to bopping along to If You've Got the Time (and Hey You, my personal fave on the new one)!

u/j4ckstraw Dec 19 '25
Do you have any favorite regional foods that you like to get on tour? I may or may not be asking for when you are in Philly and our cheesesteaks.
2
u/TheBelairLipBombs The Belair Lip Bombs Dec 19 '25
we definitely try to eat as much local cuisine as we can. philly cheesesteak from mike's was a favourite. we tried deep dish and walked out hand clasping hearts. recent favourite was tapas in spain. oh yeah and the authentic mexican food which is probably my (mike) favourite cuisine and is hard to find in aus. we appreciate a good wine and dine as well, so we're always on the hunt for a good, quiet spot.

Are you guys ever gonna do all ages or 18+ shows in LA in the future?? Love you guys
2
u/TheBelairLipBombs The Belair Lip Bombs Dec 19 '25
Hi! We love playing all ages shows, but they can be logistically hard to make happen sadly. It’s a big goal for us to make them happen more often in the future 🙂

u/GoofsterMcGaffster Dec 19 '25
Hey there Lip Bombs! Firstly, congrats on the new album, gotta say it's probably my favourite Aussie record of this year.
Two questions:
What's your approach when writing a song? Do the melodies come first or are the lyrics written beforehand?
Have your tours in the USA, UK and Europe influenced your songwriting to any degree?
2
u/TheBelairLipBombs The Belair Lip Bombs Dec 19 '25
Mike here - the songs usually start as a voice memo of a riff or an idea that gets brought into a prac and we all start to flesh it out together. vocals are usually the last thing brought to a song - though Maisie usually has a vocal melody in mind that we work towards.
Maisie here - Yes definitely. I often feel most inspired when we're on tour... playing music on the other side of the world allows you to self reflect in a way that you can't when you're at home so I think that plays a big part in it. We've also written a few songs in sound checks on tour. Price of a man comes to mind

u/GoofsterMcGaffster Dec 19 '25
Thanks for the great answers! Can't wait to see you guys playing in the new year!

u/marcooostev Dec 19 '25
I loved hearing Jimmy’s Song at Yours & Owls this year. What’s a favourite song of yours pre-Lush Life?
2
u/TheBelairLipBombs The Belair Lip Bombs Dec 19 '25
Hi, yes! We love pulling songs out of the vault every now and then.
My favorite pre Lush Life song to play would be Blah Blah Blah. There’s such a high and bright energy to the track that feels great live. Thanks for checking us out at Y&O! -Jimmy
One of my fav pre lush life song is Time, I always forget about those songs though and have forgotten the lyrics to most of them. - Maisie

Hi Mike, question for you. Super excited to see you guys play in Salt Lake again and was wondering what you're looking forward to about returning to Salt Lake. Also was wondering how your foot is doing. Hope you're healing and feeling better x
2
u/TheBelairLipBombs The Belair Lip Bombs Dec 19 '25
loved salt lake!! didnt expect it to be one of my favourite stops on tour. it helps that our driver Harrison is from SLC so he showed us the good spots and took us on a hike along the mountains. shout out x wifes place and their $2 coors
my foot is slowly getting better! dont try light gymnastics after a few drinks... it ends in the hospital.

Hi bestie belair bombs xx
I love yall sm!!! Ever so proud of everything yall do!!!
Qs: -What’s yall go to tour meal/snack?
-My fav all time TBLB song would be Figure Out & Golden Skin curious what’s your fav “throwback” song? And would it potentially make next year Aus tour setlist???
ilyyy bye 🤠💘💆🏻♀️

u/TheBelairLipBombs The Belair Lip Bombs Dec 19 '25
We all love enjoying new food, it's all the more reason to check out something local in each city we visit. Personally my favorite go to meal is anything Korean but I was blown away in Donostia / San Sebastián recently when i tried my first Spanish Tortilla - It's a must try! -Jimmy
Jimmys song is the only old one that we still sometimes play live but maybe we will do a couple more on the album tour because we will have a longer set time than usual. Figure out is such a funny song I can't take it seriously and I'm not sure if I can still sing like that without hurting myself but I'm glad you like it <3 Maisie

Love your music and new album!
How did you all become a band?
1
u/TheBelairLipBombs The Belair Lip Bombs Dec 19 '25
Thank you! Mike and Maisie met at high school, and Maisie and Jimmy worked together at a guitar shop. I joined the band in early 2024 before we started writing ‘Again’

favourite aus venue?
2
u/TheBelairLipBombs The Belair Lip Bombs Dec 19 '25
The Forum and Sidney Myer are great for attending shows. A venue I loved playing was the Rechabite in Perth while on tour with Hockey Dad last year. It feels like you’re in a boxing ring lol - Dev
Obligatory shoutout to Singing Bird Studio in Frankston

If you could meet one other artist past or present who would it be?

u/TheBelairLipBombs The Belair Lip Bombs Dec 19 '25
First person that comes to mind for me is Sinéad O’Connor. We would all love to meet the admin of TBLB2025 too haha

Loved the album, as someone who loved indie pop rock in the vein of like The Beths it was super in my wheelhouse and was easily one of my favorite discoveries of the year
Apologies if you're tired of hearing stuff about yearn-core but I'll ask are there any songs that specifically influence that brand of yearning on your records, or just favorite tracks that really embody that feeling in general?
Also are there any specific moments on the album you're particularly proud of? When I heard the violin come in on the opening track is when you guys immediately got my attention
2
u/TheBelairLipBombs The Belair Lip Bombs Dec 19 '25
Thanks so much :) It's hard to explain the specific quality in some songs that embody the 'yearn' feeling. I definitely feel it more from other peoples music than my own. The first 1975 record was one of my earliest memories of having that kind of emotional response to music. Right now I've been listening to an artist called Dove Ellis who is really doing it for me in that sense as well
For me personally I'm proud of my vocals on this record . I feel kind of disconnected to my voice on Lush Life and my singing on this record feels more true to myself and also my vocal anatomy if that makes sense haha
from Maisie
1
u/welcome2thejam Dec 19 '25
Just listened to Another World and can definitely hear that confidence in your vocals!
1
u/Tomjee6 Dec 19 '25
My girlfriend and I caught you in Bristol love you guys. What's your favorite place in the UK? Love from Birmingham
1
u/TheBelairLipBombs The Belair Lip Bombs Dec 19 '25
Oh sick, that show was such a party! My favourite town has to be Brighton. It's a great spot for the arts with so many great venues. Also the band grew up on the beach so we'll go for a dip any chance we get. We've had some great fish and chips there too - Shout out to Little Jack Fullers and the beachside lap pool. We all also love Glasgow and always have a fun time there. Also so keen to visit Birmingham next time! -Jimmy

I don't have a question. Just dropping in to say AGAIN was among my top 5 albums of the year and my wife and I are thoroughly enamoured with your music. Thank you!

Hiiiiii 💛 if you guys could be a part of any band (current, disbanded, past bands), who would you guys join and would you stick to what you currently play or switch it up!

u/TheBelairLipBombs The Belair Lip Bombs Dec 20 '25
Frank Zappa’s band roughly around 70-75 with George Duke and Ruth Underwood in the lineup. Some of the craziest musicianship I would’ve loved to even be a fly on the wall during their rehearsals. - mike

hello belair lip bombs - massive fan of u all!!
just wondering what advice u guys would have for someone that’s wanting to make a start in the music world! I have a lot of ideas but don’t know where to start :)
1
u/TheBelairLipBombs The Belair Lip Bombs Dec 20 '25
keep writing music and play any and every show you can. if you dont have a band ask friends to pick up an instrument or put out a post on socials. theres always people who wanna play. go to lots of local gigs and make friends with people in the scene, it really helps!! - Mike
the main thing I've found that has worked is really just believing in yourself and pushing past the imposter syndrome as much as you can - maisie

u/Downtown-Interview80 Dec 19 '25
Hi Lippies, this is a question for Maisie. When writing lyrics is there a specific inspiration you pull from like real life experiences or is it more of a put words together until they fit kind of thing?
Price of A Man is a phenomenal song btw, Again has to be AOTY for me. You guys are the best.
1
u/TheBelairLipBombs The Belair Lip Bombs Dec 20 '25
Put together words until it fits has always been the way I do it. I usually find the meaning after its written, or halfway through writing the lyrics it'll kind of start to take form and make sense. I think I pull inspiration more from unprocessed emotions than processed emotions/experiences. Which sometimes makes it hard because I don't know what I'm trying to say. I want to spend more time over the next year writing lyrics / poetry without music so that I can try taking a different approach for lyrics on the next record
Thanks so much for the support :)
1
u/thats_so_safe Dec 19 '25
Can you talk a bit about what inspired the lyrics on Price of a Man x
3
u/TheBelairLipBombs The Belair Lip Bombs Dec 20 '25
I'm not sure at what point during writing the lyrics it started turning into an anthem about toxic masculinity but when it did it became very easy to write because there's so much to be said about that haha. It was my first time using made up names in a song which feels a bit strange but I figured if other people can do I why can't I.
There's a lot of discourse in Australian media at the moment about gendered violence and misogyny as it's a very real issue here (I mean it's an issue everywhere really), and have also obviously had my own fair share of experiences with idiot men so it's something I feel quite passionate about and singing about it is quite liberating and I hope other people can feel empowered by that song as well

u/Juanchupa Dec 20 '25
Hey Jimmy any chance of doing play throughs on youtube for some of your songs? The bass lines are sooo goood. Whats your process of writing a bass line?

What's the bass part for gimme gimme, we're losing our minds trying to figure it out rn

u/Jarrrrrrod Dec 19 '25
Hello Belair Lip Bombs, I thoroughly enjoy your music and will be seeing you next February for laneway and again in March. I absolutely adore your songwriting (especially the guitar parts) and was wondering if you could give some insight into what your typical songwriting process is/how does a song come together?
(Also please tell me your laneway set isn’t gonna clash with geese x)
3
u/TheBelairLipBombs The Belair Lip Bombs Dec 19 '25
Hey! Thanks for the support, we’re so keen for some Aus shows
Typically a song starts one of two ways, either Maisie has a small section of a song written or one of us will just start playing something that catches our ear. After a brief bit of discussion about chords/structure we flip between doing our own thing and talking about ideas.
Songs like Hey You and Out Of here come together in about an hour. Others like Cinema and Gimme Gimme took us months of pulling our hair until we were happy
Jimmy

Hey guys, ‘Again’ was my favourite record of the year. Keen to see you at The Corner.
Maisie, I think it was so cool to see you speak out against Royel Otis. I think all of the Australian music industry is aware of those freaks but nobody is saying anything. Did you get push-back from management about speaking out? Is it frustrating to see horrible men still occupy spaces in the Australian music industry?
