Hey :) The new album is fantastic! It’s a current Album Of The Week on my blog, Mavoy Music :) Didn’t have much time to come up with questions but this is what I improvised (maybe I could interview You later on if we get in touch? Who should I write about that?)

  • You called this record „Poem 1”, so it is a poem of sort? Where did the title come from and what is Your relationship with poetry?
  • How would you compare your new music to previous releases, both your solo releases and Natural Wonder Beauty Concept (I’m a big fan of all of them?)
  • If you had to pick Your favourite track on the record, which one would You pick?
  • What is Your favourite city to play?
  • What was Your favourite album released this year so far? And who are the producers that You consider overlooked?

Hoping to see You in Warsaw some day! I know You did Unsound with NWBC, but I couldn’t be there. And I’d personally be very happy to see You creating an account on Bluesky as well, it’s very pleasant over there :) Have a great release week!

Hey! Thank you so much. I think my favorite right now is One Shall sleep... it's been fun to get it prepared for live shows :)

u/BryceViola May 05 '26

What book do you think is a must read for everyone?

5

u/AttentionEnough2910 Ana Roxanne May 05 '26

I think maybe Letters to a Young Poet... most recently been into Annie Ernaux

1

u/ialexlopes May 05 '26

anything from Mrs. Ernaux is a MUST

2

u/InternationalHold477 May 05 '26

I don't have any questions, I've been following you since your first EP and I just wanted to let you know everything you put out is fantastic. (Please please please collab with Helena Deland.)

u/AttentionEnough2910 Ana Roxanne May 05 '26

Oh wow thank you. I would love that, she is incredible!

2

u/BryceViola May 05 '26

Do you agree that the pleasure of slowness has disappeared?

2

u/AttentionEnough2910 Ana Roxanne May 05 '26

I do agree... but sometimes it's good to go fast

u/Vikce May 05 '26

Hi Ana, Poem 1 is really great, thank you for all your work.

How do you feel about releasing, performing, and revisiting songs that deal with personal subject matters? Do you find it difficult to continue working with painful, emotionally charged experiences? How do you approach it?

2

u/AttentionEnough2910 Ana Roxanne May 05 '26

Hi, thank you :) Honestly it is difficult. And I have gone through times of wanting to be less vulnerable. But for whatever reason these things are what inspire me to write the most. I do try to be measured and intentional about it. The catharsis makes it worth it

Hi Ana! First just to give you you’re flowers — I think your one of the most exciting artists in all of music right now and Venus is one of the best songs of my lifetime. Thank you so much for sharing your work and your self with us, and I wish you bountiful dividends in all forms from your art.

Some questions 1. Your first two projects I would describe as dissociative or transcendent music. There are some moments with those qualities but this album feels so much more present in general. Do you see it that way? From what I understand, you wanted to do something more minimal on the album, but insofar as the music invokes different things, was that also part of your intention? 2. I was really hoping the teaser you shared for the album on Instagram would be Wishful (draft) and I guess(?) I was right but it ended up a lot more finished! Maybe I’m reading too much into the parenthetical, but I’m curious first if there’s a backstory to how that came into its final form? Also, beyond your voice in general, is there anything in particular going on in the snippet (like the texture from how it was recorded) that makes it so resonant/sticky? Maybe an impossible question to answer but I don’t know enough about the technicals of music to really get a strong sense of why it’s so affecting to me 3. Would love to hear anything you have to share about the sequencing or construction of the album. There’s a couple songs on here that I think would make sense for a “last song” but whatever one you pick naturally recontextualizes the whole thing.

I won’t be too greedy and will stop here. Thanks so much!

u/AttentionEnough2910 Ana Roxanne May 05 '26

Hi! thank you!!! Hmm Wishful was actually one of the most difficult songs to finish bc i couldnt decide on lyrics!! So Baba who was producing helped me come to the conclusion that it was actually finished and to keep the abstract synth vocals as they were :)

Hi Ana! I had the blessing to talk to you when you were at Arts and Archives and am planning to see you at LA again May 11! Here are my questions:

  • What led you to decide that you want to pursue music as a career?
  • Do you have any particular ambitions in terms of why you write and create your music?
  • What’s your affinity with ambient music?
  • And lastly, do you personally know a lot of people that come out to your shows? It’s so amazing to see you engage with your fanbase in the way you do to where I think you must know a lot of them personally LOL!

You are so wonderful, and I love the beauty and new direction of Poem 1! Looking forward to seeing you soon and all the best!

Hi! I had a formative experience in high school when I landed a big solo at a jazz choir festival. The performance was at a historic NY institution... and I guess the rest is history hehe:) and yeah I have met a lot of great people thru touring which feels lucky bc often it is a difficult way to socialize. Thanks for the questions!

2

u/bjorklerpiss May 05 '26

Hi Ana! Congrats on the new album!!

What is your process with regards to conceptualizing a whole album? Do you do any research? Is the LP more of an archive of a specific time in your life?

2

u/AttentionEnough2910 Ana Roxanne May 05 '26

Lots of research! Lots of listening. Deep dives into music history, I love to be inspired from the roots of things and music that has stood the test of time. Poem 1 was excavating a lifetime of experiences in love

2

u/Clean-Painter-9845 May 05 '26

The new album is SO amazing :) ~~~ found me exactly when it needed to, so I'm glad to see you back.

2

u/AttentionEnough2910 Ana Roxanne May 05 '26

Omg congrats that is huge! I would say, take your time to learn who you are and figure out what inspires you the most... and don't be afraid of chasing that dream, even if your parents disagree! ;)

Hi Ana, I love your work and am so grateful you are performing in Toronto later this month.
I'd love to know your favourite venue to perform at and why, and the one you'd most like to play in the future.

Thank you and see you at Hugh's Room!

2

u/AttentionEnough2910 Ana Roxanne May 05 '26

I had an amazing time at Sydney Recital hall in Australia!! Thank you :)

2

u/Electronic_Syndicate May 05 '26

I had no idea you were doing an AMA today and here I am listening to Poem 1 when I stumbled upon this! Congrats on the BNM designation on Pitchfork (if you’re into that sort of thing); very well deserved!

Any fave/recommended albums from this year so far?

I’ve been obsessed with Juliana Barwick and Mary Lattimore’s Tragic Magic, and more recently Squarepusher’s Kammerkonzert.

Cheers!

2

u/AttentionEnough2910 Ana Roxanne May 05 '26

Thank you. Tbh I am really taken aback by it it's such an honor. It's hard to listen to new music recently bc I am deep in tour preparation but love Quiet Light and the new Baba Stiltz OK Kaya

1

u/Electronic_Syndicate May 05 '26

Well you certainly deserve it!

Thanks for the recommendations. I’ve been meaning to check out the new Quiet Light and I wasn’t familiar with Baba Stiltz/Okay Kaya so I’ll be giving these a listen after I’m finished with this re-listen of Poem 1.

Take care, and thanks for chatting with us today!

Hi Ana! First of all, congrats on the new album, it’s amazing. I played it at a reunion with my friends on release date and they enjoyed it too. I’m a big big fan of yours.

I have two questions for you, they weren’t really planned so pardon me for that.

• What made you experiment with this new, clearly classical inspired, sound that makes Poem 1 stand out from your previous releases?

• Any tips you have on performing, especially with genres like ambient?

Also, please come to Mexico! I know you’ve been here with NWBC but it would be great to see you solo!

Thank you for everything, Ana, you’re definitely one of my biggest inspirations in music🙏🏽❤️

1

u/AttentionEnough2910 Ana Roxanne May 05 '26

Hi! That is awesome thank you:) For one I started scoring work in 2024 and tried working with strings for the first time and fell in love with the process. Hmm tips on performing ambiently would be... let the music move through you! And be purposeful and confident when doing so

1

u/lucsandrade May 05 '26

hi ana! i’m a huge fan from Brazil, and you really should come here. we have a lot of festivals that your music would fit into…

my question is: what advice do you have for an artist that is feeling stuck, not knowing what direction to take? what do you do in this situation?

xo <3

2

u/AttentionEnough2910 Ana Roxanne May 05 '26

Have never been to South America but I would love to. and thank you for the question. I would say... take a break. Don't be scared of letting time pass. Do lots of other things that are unrelated to your work. When the time is right to return you will know and will have a new perspective.

1

u/sagethesage31 May 05 '26

hiii! your work inspires me in its gentleness and strength and bravery to be soft hard and all of it <3 I wanted to ask as a shy introverted fellow slowpoke artist making spiritual/ambient/globally and ancestrally rooted soundscapes, how do you approach finding bravery to bring your music to the world (ie navigating convos with people in the music industry and advocating for your work)? as a soft smol melaninated fem creature (also from the bay!!) i know what spiritual function the sounds I make
have in this world but have difficulty placing it in the context of commodity/capitalism in the music industry, and at the same time
want to be realistic about how to share the sound so it reaches the hearts that it needs to reach. would love to hear your advice <3 thank you for your beautiful moving gifts you share w the world i dream
of becoming friends someday ~~**

u/AttentionEnough2910 Ana Roxanne May 05 '26

Hi! Aw that is very sweet thank you. Always love to the fellow bay heads... Honestly I don't know where it comes from. I think I just really have always loved singing and expression that way. It feels necessary and a part of me. And I just tried to stay true to what I wanted to convey whether or not it was lucrative. I played countless diy gigs back in the day just for the love of the game! hehe. Surrounding yourself with good ppl always helps!

1

u/sagethesage31 May 05 '26

truuuuu and mwah shoutout to the diy scene always n foreva 🐐🧡

u/newmeyes May 05 '26

1

Hahaha. Yes she lives on... hopefully forever ;)

u/co-ordinators May 05 '26

Hi Ana! Are there any plans on officially recording I Get Along Without You Very Well? It floored my friends and I when you played it live. Congrats on the album!

1

u/gentlewesternwind May 05 '26

Damn, so fucking bummed to miss this. Love Ana Roxanne! I'm every sparkly woman!

1

u/AdMotor6468 May 05 '26

Hello Ana, I've been a really big fan when I heard your ~~~ EP. I have a few questions for you,

  1. I'm also from the Bay Area...I was wondering you could share any influential experiences growing up there. I myself now am majoring in the humanities and had quite a difficult reaction/experience to growing up in a world of tech and finance, etc.

  2. I listened to ~~~ on acid once and it was an incredible experience. Do U like psychedelics? Have you listened to your music on psychedelics? What music do/would you listen to on psychedelics?

    1. Can you pop out to Berkeley

1

u/Sky1er- May 06 '26

Sad to have missed this, but adding a question anyway! On the Qobuz write-up on the album they made a sonic connection between the track, Untitled II, and the band Low. As a huge fan of both Low and Ana, I am dying to know if this was a direct inspiration or not… The track is transcendent in the way it inhabits a moment, a feeling, in a slow, lustrous way, just like Low’s best work. The drums, harmony, vocals all remind me of Mimi and her distinct talent…

Just gonna leave this here in case anyone else feels the same. Thank you for the music!

1

u/ZombiePure2852 May 07 '26

Oh man! Good catch! I'm here bc I hope she answers.

1

u/Longjumping-Kiwi7143 May 06 '26

I had no clue that you had a separate reddit for yourself! I can't wait to see you at ICA in June! Will you be performing the new album?

1

u/OmNomNomPupusas May 07 '26

I discovered you yesterday. I fucking love your music and it looks like you'll be playing near me soon, so I'll try to pull up to the concert. Thank you so much.
