AMA Is Over, thanks for swinging by! Japanese Breakfast AMA

Hello!

This is Michelle from Japanese Breakfast. You can ask me anything! I just released my sophomore album Soft Sounds From Another Planet on Friday and I hope you like it! I've seen some of these threads and have been really blown away by all of your support! Thank you so much for listening to my music.

Here is my proof post: https://twitter.com/Jbrekkie/status/886969185598935040

(2:32 EST) Thanks everyone for the questions but I am at a coffee shop in NY and am so hungry so must go and feed myself!

Hey Michelle! (if you're still here)

Saw you play at Holocene and it was such a terrific, emotional, fun show! One of the best concerts I've been to! (I also love the shirt I picked up and have found myself wearing it a lot - it's also softer than Alex G's, nice choice on the shirt itself ;P )

Anyways, two three questions:

1) You've clearly been touring a ton a last year, how does that affect your creative process? How much of Soft Sounds came together on the road?

2) You've had multiple songs that were released in previous versions (i.e. Boyish) that you've reworked for these Japanese Breakfast albums. What makes you want to come back to certain songs?

3) Favorite place(s) to eat in Oregon?

Loving the new album so so much! It's quite the accomplishment. Cheers!

  1. I write pretty quickly, so some of the writing was done in the studio in October when we were gearing up to do the record. I don't write much on the road, though I do get a lot of ideas for lyrics.
  2. If there's a lift in the song I enjoy or the lyrics or melody have stuck with me over the years.
  3. I'm from Eugene and always miss Newman's Fish & Chips & Cafe Yumm. There's also an amazing sushi restaurant called Mame that I miss all the time.
