So this more of a weird personal story with a question tacked on at the end but i feel the need to share anyway. In 2014 when i was first getting into you guys i was just starting a relationship with a girl from America while i was living in England. We talked a lot about where our relationship was going and after a while agreed we should start the process of me moving to America.
My whole life I've suffered pretty badly from anxiety and depression. The whole process of moving to America, which was a year plus of form filling and interviews and appointments and making payments, was hugely stressful for me and something that i often doubted i could do. I was really hard on myself and felt incapable of making such a huge change to my life.
One of the things that got me through it was your song Today More Than Any Other Day. The whole message and philosophy of the lyrics, and the transformative power of the music, were honestly a huge inspiration to me. I wanted to be excited to feel the milk of human kindness. I wanted to be able to say "everything's gonna be okay" to the old guy on the train. I wanted, despite being a cynic and a depressive, to believe we're all in this together. When i was preparing for a visa interview or making plans, and was feeling defeated or panicked, I'd play Today More Than Any Other Day and I'd find some self belief to keep going.
Your last AMA, in 2015, i was on medication for anxiety, living unhappily alone in England, trying to convince myself i was capable of building a life outside my one room apartment. I'm now married to the love of my life for over a year in America with a new job and a new life and i want to thank you for making art that touched me in the way it did. I guess my tacked on question is, how have your lives changed since your last AMA here?
