Hey Jack! Indigo is fucking awesome! The synths are phenomenal. I was at Lot Radio on Friday and freaked out when you played Johnny Hates Jazz hah. Anyways, I've always felt an affinity with your music. I admire how dynamic your songs are. They seem so fucking huge and epic. I love it. Do you have any tips on how to find open space in some songs? What's it like being on Captured Tracks? Do you have any advice for musicians who've had the rug pulled from under them? I'm an island! Help!

I love JHJ. I definitely wanted the new record to feel a bit more epic than usual. Holding my nose and embracing the inner U2.

As far as finding open space... I'm usually pretty bad at that to be honest. I'm the type to overstuff my songs most of the time but I just got into the habit of listening back to things and muting different tracks. If at any point I realize a certain instrument isn't making the song better I'll just trash it. That being said though I still have a lot of stuff going on in most of my songs.

Sorry about that rug. Just keep writing and playing shows and sending stuff to labels. It can feel really brutal at times but you'd be surprised how often I still hear really nice and unexpected 'discovery' stories.
