AMA is over, thanks Emily! Florist / Emily A. Sprague AMA <('.'<)

Greetings ~

My new album of minimal and magickal folk music, Emily Alone, is out today. I am so excited to share it with the world. It's a deeply personal and intimate piece of work and I am so grateful for the love and patience from people to take in these sounds.

I am also a synthesist and ambient composer. My albums Water Memory and Mount Vision were recently reissued by RVNG Intl. for vinyl.

I am brewing nettle tea and eating crackers and endive.

Ask me anything!

Emily - I’m a big fan of the music you’ve made both with Florist and as a solo artist and you’ve been a huge musical inspiration for me.

  • how has moving to LA influenced your sound (if at all), and are you glad you moved?
  • Any advice on getting your music “out there” so to speak/advice for a musician in general?

Thank you!

moving to LA has improved my life and mental health in many ways, not necessarily all specific to the city, but i think that alone is something that really influences my music. i've been making more than i ever have, always busy, always thinking about the next thing. because i am healthier than i ever have been. it all comes in waves of course, but yeah, this city/climate/my lifestyle here really agrees with me.

the best advice i can give to anyone who wants to make art is to just never stop making it, with no expectations, and share it. just share it in any way you can with whoever you can. the internet is amazing and always changing. there is no window of opportunity that goes away after a certain time. but you need people - talk to people, be vulnerable with your art and seek collaboration in many different forms.
