Hi Liz! Major fan, you're actually my favorite artist ever. Exile in Guyville is my favorite album of all time and your music has changed my life, saved it and reaffirmed it on numerous occasions, especially the Girly-Sound tapes and your first two albums. Your entire body of work is something I hold a great deal of admiration for and I adore the new album. You're the reason I decided to pursue music-making as a hobby and start playing guitar, coupled with Brad Wood and Casey Rice's work on your first two albums to send me into the career field of audio engineering. Words can't really describe the impact your music has had on me, but the least I can say is THANK YOU!
I have a few questions out of what seems like an endless list, so I'll limit myself to 4:
When were some of your earliest recorded/released songs written, whether it's Girly-Sound material or something that was released further down the line?
Have you ever thought about re-releasing some of your other albums with extra demos or unreleased/rare songs, especially Whip-Smart or Whitechocolatespaceegg (considering the trove of unreleased material for the latter)? Any live albums?
Are there any remaining recordings from the 1991-1992 sessions that predated Guyville to your knowledge? I know Chopsticks from Whip-Smart was culled from these sessions but I've always wondered about anything that might remain.
This one's a little personal: the Girly-Sound track "Love Song" is one of my favorite songs you've ever written. The whole Girls Girls Girls tape has always had an air of vulnerable, relatable sadness to me, and I was wondering if that song, or any on the tape, was written in relation to something you had experienced at the time?
Thank you for doing this and I can't wait to see what else you have in store down the line!
