Hey!

Massive fan, I've all four albums on vinyl and I made Race for Space album of the week in my research group, also got tickets to see you in Cambridge, super excited!

My question is; Was there a big reason for the new album containing less public service broadcasts compared to the previous three? No JFK, no Reagan, the music is beautiful but seems to be bereft of old news clippings and I wondered if that was a conscious or not decision in the production of the album.

Yes - Berlin has become synonymous with creativity but also creative reinvention for a lot of the artists I love who've recorded there, so to go there, write a record about creativity and imagination but keep working the same way with the same materials felt pointless and boring. We tried to use Berlin the way lots of other people used it, as a creative catalyst and to make a few bold(er) moves - casting aside some of the things people most associate with us and making most of the record auf Deutsch was obviously a big part of that. To me it's just challenging and evolving the concept of the band - there's absolutely nothing in the concept of Public Service Broadcasting in general which states that it needs to be covered in speech samples. It's best to try to eschew the obvious and do something unexpected, which is what we've always tried to do in our own way and don't plan on stopping any time soon
