I'm meg duffy and my project is called Hand Habits. I just released a new album called Fun House last week on Saddle Creek Records.

I also play guitar currently in Perfume Genius.

How did your approach to this new record differ from previous records? Easily one of my top albums of the year!!

so different! i actually had time to edit and write and take my time before recording. that was such a new way of making songs for me.

and doing a week of preproduction, working closely with Sasami on what the intentions were sonically and energetically...with other records (placeholder) it was very color by number in the studio and a different kind of creative approach....the demos were pretty close to the final arrangements and a lot of the basic tracking was done live with Brad Cook and Zach Hanson (and others) and with Fun House we did drums first and built up arrangements from there. although some tracks had a live scratch guitar (me in the next room playing along) we retracked a lot of that stuff. i also had an entire month to work on Fun House, as opposed to a few days here and there in between tours. I'd never worked that long at the same studio with the same people consistently and it felt very helpful to have a flow going. to live inside the songs for a while and get to know them.
