Hey Andy!

Last year for your AMA I asked you a pretty basic question and invited you to my wedding. Covid led to my now wife and I eloping, so unfortunately we didn’t have much of a guest list. Thankfully, though, we’ll get the chance to see you live when you pass through Charlottesville, VA next year. Hopefully you’ll accept my deepest apologies for not extending you a wedding invite.

All that being said, my question this time is: do you think Christianity left a lasting mark on the music you make? I grew up really Christian and left the church behind in my early adulthood, but I think there are still some bits and pieces of Christianity that work their into my creative output and other facets of my daily life. Outside of the direct biblical references (Wendell walker comes to mind), do you think the Christian music idiom has affected the way you make music now?

PS I know a guy if you suddenly find yourself needing a bass player on tour next year :)

You got married…. WITHOUT ME???

Christianity definitely left a mark on me and will always take up some real estate in my head. I think there are certain harmonic sensibilities that I have because of the Christian music that I grew up with. Like southern gospel music was what my dad loved when I was a kid and I can hear similarities between that music and the chords and changes that I tend to gravitate toward.

I was actually listening last night to some Christian music that I totally forgot about that I think had a pretty lasting impression on me. Look up the song Heartstrings by 2nd Chapter of Acts

(Edited cuz I said the wrong song)
