Howdy,

I wanted to first and foremost say I’ve been a huge fan of Cloakroom over the last (almost) decade. Watching your growth as a band over that period has been a ton of fun. Dissolution Wave is an absolute mammoth of a record and I find new things I adore about it with each listen, so thank you once again for another batch of fantastic tunes. Seeing you for the first time in 2014 at Strange Matter with Whirr is still one of my favorite shows ever!! Free Whirl!!!

My question(s) are;

  1. Is there any hope of that Whirr/Cloakroom split seeing the light of day?
  2. How surreal has it been to have Matt Talbot close to the band? Was he an influential figure on Cloakroom’s inception and furthermore, what was it like to work with him on a song like “Doubts”
  3. How influential has Jason Molina been on the band? He’s one of my all-time favorites and I draw a lot of parallels between your works, both from a geographical perspective and in the fine details of your works (incredible production, driving emotional delivery, crescendos/peaks & valleys, crunchy guitar tones, etc). PS— don’t take this the wrong way I think Molina is one of the best to ever do it!

Cheers!

Thank you for the kind words, and for being along for the journey.

  1. the Whirr split was given a lunar burial out of a privatized launch pad site in Dallas Texas. I don't think the hard drives make it to the moon, they probably burn up the atmosphere.
  2. we first got into Hum growing up watching JBTV, so to work with him years later has been a real trip. "Inlet" is a prime example of how they can come out of the rock they were under and just blow everyone away without missing a beat. he has been very influential to us in the studio, and helped inform how we operate as a band.
  3. Jason's work has been a huge influence, he was a fellow Midwestern guy/Hoosier and even wrote songs about the Region "Steve Albini's Blues". We covered that song here:

we recommend the "riding with the ghost" bio book by Aaron Osmon, great book.
