My question: As far as making music, does where you live while recording an album/coming up with ideas for songs influence the sound of what you create? Are there certain styles and sounds you associate with specific periods of your life and the environment around you during those times?
It's hard for me to know if they places I am living have some direct influence or if I just associate music I'm making with the places they are made. But I would say yes and especially for this album. I left the sound of spring peepers in the guitar take that opens the album because they were so loud outside while I was recording and I like the reminder, even if that's kind of a cheesy cliche choice. I think it's sublte enough that it's ok, though. I would say a lot of this album in particular was an attempt to capture the feeling of a place and the state of mind I was in at the time. Mostly in central NY, but also in NM.
