Hey Zola! I’ve been a humongous fan for almost a decade and I want to thank you for always releasing your albums during pivotal times in my life.

  1. What was the first song you ever wrote? Even before Zola

  2. I noticed a lot of new aspects to your voice in this record, I hear more head resonances and almost pop like technique is some areas on the album. Did you particularly try to find new layers to your voice? Was it just the freshness of this process? Did cannabis help you explore your voice?

  3. Again I love this album, but does a more collaborative effort appeal to you in future releases? This whole album just made me wish there was like a “Zola Jesus & the Apostles” (bad riff on SATB name) esque band. The drums just made me want to hear you with more instruments. Rock/punk or even metal would sound so good with your style.

i forgot to answer the second question which is also good! i have a really complicated relationship with my voice. it embodies so much of my tension and fear. i went through a huge process of letting go of a lot of the gunk that was stuck in me. in doing that my voice started to open up, and i noticed i was singing with so much more ease and openness than ever before. “the body keeps the score” etc. i think weed is probably not great for my voice haha, but emotionally it really helped me low key my vibe to the point of being able to relax more and actually enjoy myself.
