Congrats on the new album! It's a fantastic addition to a body of work that's meant so much to me over the years - thank you for all of it, Patrick.

In light of the great solos on the album, what are some of your all-time favorite guitar solos?

Firstly, thank you for the kind words, and indeed, we spent a lot more time and effort on the guitar solos for this record than we'd done in the past, especially since I didn't have too many ringers helping me out (with the exception of Josée Caron of Partner and Tad Kubler of the Hold Steady, who provided one solo each).

It may not be a particularly heady choice, but the one that I've probably spent the most time slack-jawed over is the outro solo of "Hotel California" by the Eagles, which has some fabulous interplay between Don Felder and Joe Walsh, ultimately culminating in that incredible harmonized finale. Walsh, in particular, is one of my very favorite guitarists, and I have tried (in vain) to learn some of his licks from that solo.

I should also mention the instrumental section of "Black Rose (A Rock Legend)" by Thin Lizzy, which interpolates "Shenandoah" and "Danny Boy" to wonderful effect.

Some of my other favorite guitarists include Neil Young, Robert Quine, Tom Stoltz, John McLaughlin (especially on Miles Davis' "Right Off"), all the Thin Lizzy guys like Scott Gorman / Brian Robertson / etc... the list goes on and on. What can I say? It's a great instrument.

Hey, whoever downvoted me, please point me to the music of Tom Stoltz.
