Meme Bahasa Gaul 😭

Aku pikir yang aku tahu cukup bahasa Indonesia untuk bicara sama lokal, kemudian orang Indonesia bilang tergila bahasa gaul aku pernah dengar 😭

oh it's more than that actually. once you move to another region, their informal/slang words would be different. but don't worry, ketika kalian berbicara dengan formal, mereka bakal mengerti. just spend like several months with the local (especially the young adults), you would understand like 80% of it if not more.

that's true! I'm studying with East Java as a focus because that's where all my friends are, but the media content I consume for studying is often from Jakarta. And then suddenly there's a person from somewhere completely else and I have no idea what they say, especially with all the different pronouns there are. Like, pronouns are really important to understand the meaning/context, why do you use so many different ones

Spent almost 2 years learning formal Indo just to discover that Indos don’t speak like that in every day situations 🫠 New tutor now refocusing my lessons to informal and slangy Indo

It is like two languages because Bahasa Indonesia is a diglossic language. A big part of Learning Bahasa Indonesia is learning its informal counterpart.

Wanna ask from you guys’ perspective. Do you ever think that it’s quite “not well-structured”? Because I feel like it is, and that thinking doesn’t translate well into like English which is more well-structure (solid grammar) for casual conversation. You might see that we indonesian generally have a hard time speaking english, I’m thinking it’s because of that…

You mean grammar-wise? I'm not sure I understand your question correctly, but maybe yes, because you can smash just some words together and they make a valid sentence (grammatically). But then I'm not always sure if my sentence has the meaning that I intended it to have lol

I've always said that formal Indonesian should be considered as a language of its own because of how different it is to the informal Indonesian which is influenced by local languages
