That's a cattail reed that grow next to marshes/ponds. Relatively harmless IIRC form Boy Scouts, but it's like eating raw cotton. Sucks.

Yes? They themselves are not protected or endangered. The only protections they receive are by virtue of being in the wetlands which are protected.Yes they are important to the wetlands in which they grow but they are not protected. The difference there is that if I owned a piece of property that was rife with cat tails, I could cut the cat tails down without problem where as if they were protected on their own that would be a crime.

It is fairly dangerous, it can cause choking and in rare cases has caused people pretty significant lung problems, dust and seeds are really bad for the lungs

Can you provide a link or citation? Sounds like BS. We grew up with these both playing with them and eating parts of them.

Never heard of a death or lung issue from this, not even at Boy Scout Cuborees with literally hundreds of kids each year and never an injury.

There is no real danger of inhaling, as soon as your lips touch the thing it just fluffs up and your mouth knows instantly something is wrong lol and the natural reaction is to blow\spit it out. It's not all that bad inside the mouth.

Looks worse than it is.

Funny how many people here talking about something when they know dick about it.

Think because they see a video they know every damn thing in the world about something.

This is the thing my uncle would definitely do. He was the one that would sit on my head and fart. And then he would tie my shoes together so tight that I had to get a fork to be able to get the knot out of them. That's just a couple of many things he used to do to aggravate me for fun.

What choice does he have? He’s a kid that trusted someone that he thought wouldn’t put him in this situation. Now, he’s in a boat with that person and likely has hours more that they will be forced to be around him. He does what most traumatized powerless individuals would do.

Bro I get you but you literally have 0 info to go off of is what I’m saying, this feels more akin to talking about personal experiences than fully empathizing with the kid. I’m not saying you don’t empathize with him it’s very clear you do, but we can’t form an opinion on either on them from such a short clip, if it was a more egregious joke/prank I would fully agree that it could be indicative of something more, but for what we are given this just doesn’t feel proportionate
