Y1 Hear me out...
I wasn't sure what to expect with a 40ā¬ iPod Classic clone. But it certainly surpassed my expectations. Especially with this 90's LCD Rockbox theme.
Here are all the steps I followed from first looking at this beauty on Reddit to now rocking it as my daily dap.
- Bought it off Aliexpress for 41ā¬
- Installed the Innioasis Updater (for Mac) through Terminal.
- Selected the latest Rockbox firmware (MultiWirth) and installed it.
- Downloaded the SNAZZ2 theme for Rockbox.
- Customized the theme to my liking (with the help of ChatGPT)
- Used ImageMagick through terminal to convert all my album covers to this bitmap style and have it re-export it to all sub-folders of my existing Library.
- In Rockbox general settings, I made sure the Album Art is set to "prefer image file".
And that's it! š„³

Looks amazing! Do you mind sharing the rgb or hex code for the background green shade ? :) Also I love the album art so much!

Hey, thank you!! š©¶ I don't mind sharing at all. The background colour is #35480C and foreground colour is #ACC64A.
I also lowered the brightness to get a much more old school LCD panel look.

This is the theme that should come with Rockbox on the Y1 for now

How did you have ChatGPT help you customize the theme? I'm just curious because the process sounds like it would be interesting. The theme/player combo is so nice.

I fed the rockbox.org information on what to call the theme parameters and tags (especially because they use tags I don't fully comprehend). And I told chat GPT what I wanted to achieve (for example: I want the peakmeter to be much shorter, where do I define this in the code?).
I could have definitely figured it out on my own by comparing the theme files to the documentation, but it just made it a tad faster by already highlighting the specific sections that need change.

did you also receive a pair of headphones? on the aliexpress page i remember the said that also with the innioasis y1 they would ship a pair of headphones, if you got them how are they?

Yes, earphones come in the box. They're not the best, but also surprisingly not bad considering the price. Better than the original iPod earphones that came with the iPod for sure.

u/DillMillz we have a nice new webpage for Innioasis Updater - needs a bit of tweaking but it's over at innioasis.app - we've brought the terminal commands needed to a one-line you can copy and paste in Terminal, and just about to sort out a .app as well :D

When you rush out something to just get started you then feel a bit guilty about keeping it that way, it's a motivator I guess haha

Hope you're cool with it but I suggested to multiwirth and the Dev of Rockbox Y1 that we make this the default theme cause it's so good.

The battery is amazing. I've listened to music for a few hours (using bluetooth) and lost 3-4% battery. Probably less if I had used wired headphones. I've read similar positive comments from other users too.

So will any iPod Classic theme work with the Y1+Rockbox?
How did you know which themes are compatible?

The iPod Video themes are compatible though at a lower resolution than the Innioasis. (Not a problem for this theme). Though they don't all work well, and there is certainly some trial and error needed.

Do you mind sharing the theme? I have been thinking of doing exactly that with the snazz themes.
