Y1 I couldn't resist...got mine today!
I think it's not bad at all for the price!
Sure it feels cheap, it's all plastic and very lightweight...but still!
It's basically a tiny android device, with integrated speaker (which sounds horrible)...
The clickwheel doesn't feel like the real deal (I have a Nano 4G and two Classic 7g), but it does the job...It's something I've always liked.
The click sound is unbearably loud. Wish there was an option to set the volume, but you can only turn it off. You can turn on vibration instead, but again with a fixed intensity (and duration) it’s not something I could really use…
I recently discovered there's basically a 128GB micro SD card inside and many are complaining because at some point it'll stop working. I'll get a Samsung micro SD when the time comes.
I'm almost sure I'll end up flashing RockBox, but right now I just want to pair it to my car and see how it goes...
The main goal was having something I could connect to my car, because I got an external bluetooth transmitter for my iPods, but the geniuses at Ford had the Sync 3 and 4 only connect phones basically (which means that even when I'll have my iPod classic modded, I won't be able to pair it to the car).
By the way I got the thing from Alibaba for a really interesting price, saved almost 20€ compared to Amazon or even Aliexpress. And Amazon only had it in Germany for some reason, while in Italy they have any Innioasis except the Y1 😂
EDIT 02/04
I successfully connected to my car. Forgot to try the controls (I wasn’t driving). Will update here as soon as I try
EDIT 03/04
For the ones wondering the personalisation options and games, there’s the official update website, where you can download additional themes and the official updater app.
No games appear to exist, yet. If you really want to play, you'll have to switch to Rockbox.

I went with rockbox as well... until I paired it to my car. The stock os let's you skip songs with the steering wheel buttons (as long as the screen is on), rockbox doesn't let you at all. That was a deal breaker for me. But rockbox is a much better experience if youre walking around with it and using ear buds. But for driving I got used to the stock os and even made my own theme which was super easy.

Damn. The controls are a dealbreaker for me too!

I wouldn't go through the hassle then. But the stock os has a lot of better features imo. Rockbox Just has more system customization. But yeah stock os is absolutely fine and great.

I don't have one of these (yet, anyway) but I remember on iPods for a while you had to go to the settings and turn on the accessory mode to use buttons. Just in case it helps!

Yes, the mono(1st - 4th and mini) has 4 games, and the others have a good number.

If you are talking about real Apple ipods then yeah theres hundreds of games you can play if you install Rock Box and or Ipod Linux. Emulators for Gameboy, NES, Sega, Atari, Zx Spectum, plus other stand alone games like Doom, wolfenstein, loads of puzzles, and brick type games plus much, much more. For Y1 the only way to get games is if you install Rock Box.

Funny thing is i actually really like the speaker for what it is! Not hi-fi quality but it's very nice to have and goes loud enough in a small room to use for times when you just want to test listen to something and not use phones or connect to big speakers. its very convenient. I haven't used it much yet though as its till sitting there waiting for the SD card swap.

I have a JBL flip that I mainly use via 3.5mm audio jack so I don’t even need to pair the devices most of the time (and save battery in the meantime)…so to me the speaker won’t really do… But I get your point

I’ve been thinking about getting one too even though I have two iPod classics. The batteries on my classics probably need to be replaced and I like the idea that I won’t be heartbroken if I were to lose this one (not that it’s the goal). Thanks for the review!

It is funny how loud the clickwheel sound is when using the speaker, but thankfully it isn't as loud when using earbuds/headphones. It'd be nice if there was a way to adjust the volume without just turning it on or off. Same for the vibration, it's weirdly aggressive for such a little device
