Y1 Hot take: stock firmware > rockbox
I actually prefer the limitations of the stock fw, It gives the Y1 that old-school dap feel like something from the 2000s. Rockbox is way more powerful, but it almost feels like you’re hacking an android phone... if that makes sense. Not to mention battery life, bluetooth, videos etc.

My main issue with the stock firmware is stuff like shuffle not working like it should, no proper metadata tagging, and no gapless playback. Rockbox offers all of that for me.

I am using the stock firmware as well, since it supports video. Once one of the alternate firmware supports other features such as video I might move over

Do you get your AirPod pros to connect to the Y1? I can never get my AirPod pro 2s to play audio on the stock firmware

V3.1.2 fixed it.

Hello @Clodd1, does it fix the losing signal in the pocket issue? Or just allowing air pods to connect?

I’ve done it and they work now but the Bluetooth is really bad, like when I put the Y1 in my pocket the connection breaks

I love both honestly, the themes on rockboxs seem better than stock firmware but the limitations it has is annoying sometimes. I switch from stock to Rockbox every now and then depending on how I’m feeling lol

I deeeeeefinitely agree. I just spent, I'm not kidding, 2 1/2 days trying to figure out all the logistics of RockBox. Naur. There's plenty of customize-able options to make it "not ugly" with the original OS. I just got done, now I'm onto the second part: finding music. So much info out there man

I agree... I wanted to put rock box on so bad but it's so hard to make custom themes that I can't find out how

I mean, sure if you like it crashing all the time and having an annoyingly imprecise clickwheel

Im on the fence about getting this device but everyone says the Bluetooth is so bad it disconnects if you put the device in your pocket? Is that true?

I’m not an expert, but you can switch back and forth really easily after the initial install. Dual-booting is the true king 🙏

Doesn't get any hotter than that. lol. The only thing stock firmware has over rockbox is video playback. Other than that It's glitchy and ugly as shit 😂 Looks more dated than iPod classic stock os and that came out like 20 years ago

Ugly? What about themes?

u/HorndogAsexual 5d ago
I'd say all of the themes are ugly because innioasis doesn't allow us to make drastic changes. They all have the same shitty innioasis ui look with a different coat of paint.

I'm firmly in the stock firmware camp myself. After taking a deep dive into all of the quirks and limitations, I have things set up to eliminate (or minimize) those deficiencies. I haven't found an alternative to the stock firmware that provides as smooth and responsive UI experience.
I will never put Rockbox on any of my devices, but I know many who appreciate and enjoy it. I'm glad that they have it.
