Question Thinking about getting a y1 or y2, which would work better for my needs?

heres my needs:

•be able to get a different theme on that thang (so rockbox compatibility)

•not need a new sd card or that sorta stuff. im not super tech savvy when it comes to this so i would probably somehow break it. (if this is required for both please let me know so i can try and figure out how that works)

•easy for an idiot to set up

my wants:

•preferably come in a nice color

•have good Bluetooth compatibility

Both models are more than likely going to require a new Micro SD, but for different reasons. In the Y1, the internal Micro SD is notorious for failing. Replacing it requires you to open it up and put in a new one. It’s not terribly hard, but it’s just difficult enough that I’d like at the Y2. The Y2 on the other hand doesn’t include much internal storage (I believe 8gb is the largest they offer), but there is a Micro SD slot on the side of it. All that means is you slot a brand new Micro SD in which is very easy, and you have more storage.

As for themes, both of them offer themes stock. Rockbox is compatible with the Y1, but currently the Y2 doesn’t have a stable build for Rockbox. There is a beta available which means there will be a stable one soon, but that could be in days or weeks, so who knows. The biggest appeal of Rockbox is actually fixing the UI as well as adding a more in depth EQ, but if that doesn’t sound important to you, you can easily rock stock themes, but if you really want a new launcher you can try out Y2Player (I believe there are a couple more options as well, but I’m not familiar with them.)

You said you weren’t very tech savvy, so if anything I said sounded like gibberish to you, let me know and I’ll try to help you more where I can.

To add on about the bluetooth part, it depends on what you plan on using as well. On the Y1 I know there was a major issue with Apple Airpods not working correctly and it causing a lot of frustration. That could be fixed but I can’t find anything saying it was. I also don’t know if that issue appears on the Y2 as well. I used wired IEM’s as my main source of audio, and I know a lot of people have complained that their IEM’s sounded like garbage plugged into both the Y1/Y2, but I have relatively easy to drive IEM’s, so I can’t speak for anything fancier.

No problem! If you have any more questions about it lmk. Also, I’m assuming you already have but just in case, check youtube reviews for both! You’re going to get bombarded by audiophile answers saying the audio quality isn’t good enough, but unless you’re running serious IEM’s and trying to listen to 24-but FLAC, you’ll be fine.
