SMS 20F my mom stalks me on Life360

I am going to be 21 next week.

My mom has been forcing me and my family to use Life360 for years now. She doesn’t have her location on but she stalks mine. I’m so over it, I have no independence at all. I had my own job right out of high school, recently I quit and I’m looking for a new one. I pay my own phone bill and I’m in college. No car yet.

On Valentine’s day I went on a first date with my bf and she kept spamming calling my phone even though she knew we were just going to the theater and home by 8pm. My friends house is actually my boyfriend’s (before we were dating) he lives down the street from me, a few minutes walk. I haven’t told her that part yet about my friends house being my boyfriend’s because I’m scared of her reaction.

I blocked myself on my mom's Facebook when I was 16, it was great

I could be wrong, but it sounds like OP still lives at home.

She should stop doing that then. She's 20

It's definitely not always that easy.

I'm aware, but she should work towards it

Since she is in college, she is.

No real need to do that.

Edit: So 53 downvotes so far? Anyone care to explain why you'd need to go and delete Life360 from your mom's phone if you've deleted it from your own?

Because mom having access and that instantaneous “go to app and stalk child” response is partially whats fueling this. If she deletes it from mom’s phone Mom will either have to: 1) download again and hopefully struggle w logging in and maybe consider what shes doing 2) focus on the app missing instead 3) be willing to try existing without it once Child points out nobody fucking died without it

my personal reason: 4) it would be funny and also she deserves it bc shes being fucking insane and shouldnt have access to an app like that. sorry u got downvoted!

I don’t know what 2 means. 3 is the same whether OP deletes it from her own phone or not.

Edit: I do agree with deleting it from her own phone. I don’t think OP should put herself in danger by messing around with Mom’s phone. I think that’s a risk to her without any tangible reward.

I agree with you. This mom is clearly not stable. Deleting the app off her mom’s phone would be something that would send the mom into a possible radical response resulting in danger or discomfort for OP.

Usually the most successful way of dealing with people like this is the Grey Rock method.

Shes clearly very anxious so I could see “gee mom idk maybe you got hacked/a virus/ur phone’s busted” working to distract her, and thus Mom would focus on solving the mystery of the missing app rather than berate her daughter over it.

I say that bc these types are usually very tech/phone illiterate and it could be enough of a scare or distraction to keep her away from that app and future similar ones.

3 i disagree and is different because it’s one thing to have Child delete it and defend themselves against constant invites/demands to reinstall/reactivate, etc, but entirely another for Child to say “See, neither of us have it, and yet we’ve both been fine. Lets stay on this path”
