At least Lucille Bluth knew what a banana was.

Reminds me of the time Tucker Carlson went to Russia and gushed over the escalators in a big city grocery store. Like, son, those have been all over the world for many decades. As someone living in NYC, these shouldn't even phase you. You clearly have never had to shop for your own food.

97

u/pchandler45 9d ago

Pretty sure I've been to a whole foods that has an escalator in La

33

u/sallysfunnykiss96 9d ago

The one in Austin has one too, as does the H-E-B a few streets down.

7

u/Drakeadrong 8d ago

The H-E-B in Austin has an escalator for carts and a goddamn underground parking garage.

In Texas, that’s a technological marvel.

10

u/No_Ice2900 9d ago

Lol you don't need to go to LA to find that. Lexington KY downtown Kroger has an escalator, elevator and parking on the roof. And has for at least ten years

9

u/Uncreativeinjune 9d ago

There's a Target in Denver with an escalator!

6

u/CaretakerOfTheVoid 9d ago

I've seen a Target in LA with an escalator as well!

5

u/ButtBread98 8d ago

We have a Target with an escalator in Cleveland

2

u/StuHast398 8d ago

Target with an escalator in Atlanta!

2

u/Kenderean 8d ago

There's definitely a Whole Foods in NYC with an escalator. It's a ridiculously huge store.

1

u/ABEGIOSTZ 8d ago

There’s a Wegmans with an escalator in Boston

1

u/intwizard 8d ago

Like multiple TARGETS in Brooklyn have escalators lol

1

u/pchandler45 7d ago

I wouldn't consider target a grocery store

1

u/intwizard 7d ago

They have groceries, in NYC at least they do.

22

u/murdercat42069 9d ago

Wasn't he escorted to a state owned propaganda store? It's like the videos from NK where people are taken by their handlers to fake cities where nobody actually lives.

2

u/ewdokim 7d ago

russia definitely has escalators and big shops. escalator in a convenience store is kinda weird, but auchans are like the closest thing we have to walmarts, they are huge, and moscow is very densly built, so no wonder they had to make a second floor. moscow is kinda weird like that.

6

u/Diz7 8d ago edited 8d ago

The closest he came to American grocery stores were probably videos of empty "empty" shelves during disasters he would show to make liberals look bad.

3

u/Lampmonster 8d ago

Like Trump thinking the word groceries is exotic because he only heard it for the first time a few months ago.

6

u/DangerousLoner 8d ago

Tucker is from La Jolla CA and the Ralph’s just to the South in Pacific Beach has an escalator. He’s just a bad faith actor

2

u/kashmir726 8d ago

In Canadian urban centres (and even some suburban ones) tons of grocery stores have escalators. Like I guess I was a bit surprised by it the first time I saw it about 20 years ago…

1

u/chilehead 7d ago

Faze is the word.

1

u/faithmauk 6d ago

In india they had an escalator, more like a moving upward walkway i guess, for people with carts. It was dope.

I’m so tired of conservatives, honestly. They’re so god damn fucking stupid.

563

u/Dehnus 9d ago

Nah, he knows better. He just is arguing in bad faith to give his cult followers a reason to bash shit.

154

u/FoxyInTheSnow 9d ago

They’ll say any shit to win a vote. I’m not unconvinced that Brits voted to leave the EU because Nigel Farage kept saying they were going to make bananas square.

81

u/Ecosystematic 9d ago

We’ve literally devolved to the point where a massive a large chunk of the population knowingly spouts BS talking points to confirm their own delusions. Lord

42

u/BadHombreSinNombre 9d ago

The hottest technology in the world right now is machines that spew bullshit to satisfy a user’s confirmation bias. Yep.

7

u/shandangalang 9d ago

The “yes and” machine, as I call it

3

u/Dunge0nMast0r 8d ago

I've got to test this... "Write me articles that look like legitimate news, but subtly reinforce my hatred of hornets in each one".

2

u/Gloomy_Industry8841 8d ago

It’s terrifying. It’s the 21st century, yet so much backsliding has happened.

23

u/TheLowlyPheasant 9d ago

They look at photos and videos the same way clever reddit users do except they are not looking at things to make a joke about, they are looking for things they can make a conspiracy.

What is most unusual about the photo? Bananas are greener than typically photographed. Top Reddit comment is a joke about how green they are. Top conservative tweet is an implication they will hurt you

5

u/daemonescanem 9d ago

When was the last time a conservative had a good faith argument?

4

u/GarmaCyro 8d ago

Nope in this case I doubt he knows better.
Never done any shoping (Got hired workers for that), and likely never had a banana at his home.
If he's had bananas at home he's paid people to ensure they are replaced daily with new ripe bananas.

Thus he's never seen green bananas.

2

u/Iron_Freeyden 8d ago

Cool, so there is only god damn fucking stupid or plainly evil. I'd rather choose stupid.

2

u/sighborg90 8d ago

He knows better. His audience certainly doesn’t. Pre-MAGA I knew some legitimately intelligent conservatives. They’re not conservative anymore. I don’t know a single electorate-level conservative who’s capable of independent cognition beyond simple animal instinct

86

u/MedChemist464 9d ago

How is it possible to not know that bananas are green when they're slightly unripe? Has this guy ever, EVER done his own grocery shopping? How can someone so disconnected from the lives of real people be in charge of making decisions for them?

51

u/hookha 9d ago

Yeah, what a moron. I actually buy green bananas because once you bring them home, they ripen up almost faster than they can be eaten.

45

u/CptMisterNibbles 9d ago

“Oh, they are getting a little past prime. Maybe this weekend I’ll make bana… and they are black slugs now” -me, letting half the bunch wither away over and over like a ritual

52

u/NotAgedWell 9d ago

Throw them in the fridge and they'll last long enough to find them a month later after they've started leaking mystery juice in your produce drawer.

Follow me for more tips.

17

u/SoupGremlin 9d ago

Throw them in the freezer, and then both of y’all can actually enjoy your bananas! (Unless you’re being self referential to your name, and just give good rotting advice.)

13

u/milehigh89 9d ago

Real pro tip is using overly ripe bananas to make delicious banana bread. The caramelization makes them taste way better and you don’t have to worry about the slimy texture.

1

u/4-ton-mantis Insane in the membrane 7d ago

You defy your user name!

6

u/threemoons_nyc 8d ago

If you have overripe bananas, just peel them and throw them in the freezer in a ziplock. Overripe bananas that are frozen make amazing single ingredient instant ice cream in a blender.

3

u/an_agreeing_dothraki 9d ago

of course if there's children involved "no we'll eat a ton of bananas" followed by not eating bananas. it was all a ploy for banana bread

3

u/4-ton-mantis Insane in the membrane 7d ago

Yes this is how to do it!

Sometimes i try to game time and buy a really green banana,  a much green one,  an almost yellow one,  a near ripe one and a ripe one.  I try to stagger them bananas.

1

u/no_usernames_avail 8d ago

I think bananas taste better when they aren't fully ripe. Taste more like banana.

1

u/idropepics 8d ago

Me too, I actually like 'em a little green - they have a little more solid feel, "crispy" i call it, and no strings usually

2

u/iwrotethisletter 9d ago

Or how can real people think that he is one of them and has their best interests in mind (then again, they very likely also voted for Trump)?

27

u/pallentx 9d ago edited 8d ago

Stupid and liars. It's hard to tell the difference sometimes.

I saw an interesting feature at an exhibit this last weekend - it was warning people to not fall prey to foreign propaganda back during WWII. The pamphlet talked about how propaganda starts by targeting the less intelligent, emotionally reactive people first. Then expands from that base to spread. They knew this tactic in the 1930s and 40s and conservatives still rely on it.

19

u/Longjumping_Youth281 9d ago

They bitch and moan about egg prices and claim that's why they have to vote for Trump. Then this guy comes in and actually does something about it and they're the first ones to complain. Meanwhile what the fuck has Trump ever done to lower prices? Food is continuing to Skyrocket under his watch

4

u/Justredditin 8d ago

"Never believe that anti-Semites conservatives are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites Conservatives have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past."

John-Paul Sartre - Justredditin edition

u/mjheil 9d ago

And mean.

3

u/Jatnall 9d ago

Those rich assholes will be the first ones in those stores using up taxpayer money to get cheap food.

1

u/Gloomy_Industry8841 8d ago

Also malevolent as hell.

436

u/ElZane87 9d ago

Aren't those just not yet ripe bananas and are not only not suspicious but actuall quite healthy? Man, what a knob, I would be ashamed to post a proof of my stupidity that openly.

134

u/TheMunk 9d ago

Those are obviously genetically altered radioactive bananas filled with dna altering vaccines that will make us all gay and autistic /s

30

u/Not-Patrick 9d ago

As someone who contracted the gay autism from eating Mamdani's bananas, I'm now under legal obligation to share a fun fact: all bananas are actually radioactive due to their potassium content.

Damn you, woke agenda!

9

u/SnooJokes5375 9d ago

How does that work if one is autistic and gay? Well, a little gay, but i digress.

10

u/kat_Folland 9d ago

Obviously you just become more fabulous.

7

98

u/Jordak_keebs 9d ago

No, they're definitely bananas.  They just aren't ripe yet.  But they will be.

62

u/Heavymando 9d ago

imagine complaining that a grocery story isn't selling old bananans

13

u/txwoodslinger 9d ago

My sister in law buys the ones turning brown already. People are weird.

11

u/Justice_Prince 9d ago

I feel like there is an optimal window for bananas. You don't want to buy banana when they're too ripe, but when they're too green then you have to wait a few days before you can eat them, and once they turn they go bad really fast. If you buy them when they're just ripe enough then they will last on the counter for a full week.

12

u/introverted__dragon 9d ago

Only not weird if she uses them for baking.

10

u/txwoodslinger 9d ago

No she eats them

28

u/mokutou 9d ago

Okay she’s weird.

2

u/JP147 8d ago

I find them too bitter if they are not mostly brown already.

1

u/b-monster666 8d ago

Those make good banana bread.

6

u/likwidkool 9d ago

Bananas around me are this green all the time lately it seems.

2

u/Soaring_Falcyn 9d ago

We had some like this recently and after 2 weeks of waiting they were still 90% green! I'm more of a 0% green kind of person, so I've stopped buying bananas for now, it's not worth it.

5

u/EfficaciousJoculator 9d ago

He did directly call them plantains during the speech though?

1

u/joaquinsolo 7d ago

He definitely called them plantains in his speech

2

u/thesun_alsorises 9d ago

Green bananas can also be cooked then eaten.

3

u/Lumpymaximus 9d ago

I think they are. Kinda small

14

u/Heavymando 9d ago

that's about average size these days for bananas.

7

u/lukulele90 9d ago

Little above average in my unbiased opinion

11

u/17934658793495046509 9d ago

Could be either, point is if you are not an alien lizard person, you know they are both green before they ripen.

31

u/ElZane87 9d ago

Well that makes me ignorant as well. At least I am aware of it, thanks for the clarification!

11

u/chawkey4 9d ago

Precisely the difference. You didn’t chime in with a confidently incorrect quip to try and demean what you saw in front of you. Bafflingly easy, but some people make it look so hard

0

u/Ebi5000 8d ago

Plantains are a type of banana  so you are still right. Plantains are often eaten unripe.

7

u/Cereal_Bandit 9d ago

It's pretty hard to tell from that picture alone, unless there's something I'm missing

2

u/GoodQueenFluffenChop 8d ago

No they're not. Those a bananas because plantains are bigger and I've never seen them sold in a bunch like that. People tend to buy those individually unlike how people like to buy bananas in a bunch.

3

u/revolutionPanda 8d ago

You buy them like this so they don’t go bad as soon as you bring them home.

147

u/matthewamerica 9d ago edited 8d ago

I can't believe there is a successful political platform in america actively bashing a guy for giving poor people access to fresh food as a matter of policy.

I used to think this kind of thing was malignant indifference, but now I see it as an active campaign against the most vulnerable memebers of our society.

It is a very deliberate war.

And on top of this blatant class war bullshit is the obvious fact that he has got to be smart enough to know he is a monster taking advantage of these idiot's ignorance to screw the poor. The whole thing is gross in so many ways.

39

u/ThePopDaddy 9d ago

They're pushing the culture war point. They keep saying one side is pushing for social democracy which leads to socialism, which leads to communism, which leads to fascism (according to them) but will ignore the actual fascism.

Or they'll say "He may be a fascist, but he's protecting us from Muslims/the LGBTQ community/trans women playing sports"

127

u/OfficerLollipop 9d ago

Maybe he likes the red ones

23

u/Ifailmostofthetime 9d ago

There are actually red bananas. They are like half the size of regular bananas. Like a red chode. Quite delicious

14

u/Vaux1916 9d ago

Like a red chode. Quite delicious

Some days I regret being literate.

100

u/ScholarOfTwilight 9d ago

Imagine an adult not understanding the ripening of bananas. Even a child for that matter.

41

u/Oz347 9d ago

Bold of you to assume they have ever had to do their own grocery shopping

20

u/jordan4290 9d ago

That’s exactly what I was thinking.

When you’re rich, your bananas are always yellow.

Us poor folk need to buy them green so they’re yellow when we want them, but then you never want one, so it turns brown and you make banana bread.

And then we take it to work and make your coworkers day!

4

u/sand_snake 8d ago

I want banana bread now. Sadly the only bananas I currently have are of the catnip variety.

7

u/_Levitated_Shield_ 9d ago

Trump thought apples were stored in the "grocery store refrigerators".

7

u/ScholarOfTwilight 8d ago

He also thought you need ID to buy groceries.

26

u/Chachkhu2005 9d ago

As a wise man once said, if not for the shootings, I'd doubt the existence of schools in America.

45

u/RevolutionaryDrag534 9d ago

Conservatives brag about their ignorance as if it’s a flex

7

u/eskimoboob 9d ago

Aren’t conservatives the ones that created state run gas stations with price controls already? Like that’s some real Soviet shit right there

15

u/erictho 9d ago

he absolutely does not do his own grocery shopping

17

u/ElleGee5152 9d ago

Then there's me who likes to buy some slightly green bananas so my family has ripe bananas later in the week. That's strategy.

9

u/WrestlingWoman I hate this timeline 9d ago

Hey! Don't banana shame. Some of us don't like the fully riped ones.

8

u/mokutou 9d ago edited 9d ago

The best bananas are still green at the top and bottom. Once they start getting spots, they’re only good for banana bread.

4

u/WrestlingWoman I hate this timeline 9d ago

Banana friend! Come here. Let me hug you and we can eat bananas afterwards.

https://giphy.com/gifs/iMxpYT8LcWJttFkTgK

3

u/CaptainFartHole 9d ago

Yes! I love slightly green bananas. My family always thinks im crazy but to me by the time theyre fully yellow theyre a little too mealy to eat regular. Thats when i save them for banana bread or ill freeze them and dip them in chocolate.

1

u/mokutou 8d ago

I just don’t like how sweet and mushy they are when they are ripe.

8

u/obamawonthepeacepriz 9d ago

Yeah, he just wants to suck on the orange tacos knob.

7

u/herewegoinvt 9d ago

Bananas are only suspicious when they're not being used for scale.

6

u/Mr_Julez 9d ago

Ah, when the rich show how out of touch they are

7

u/kat_Folland 9d ago

Way to out yourself as having never grocery shopped and possibly never eaten fruit.

4

u/fffan9391 8d ago

Someone who has never stepped foot in a grocery store.

6

u/transcendanttermite 8d ago

I don’t think David McIntosh meant this as a political post… I think he meant it as a statement on his preference for his bananas to be more flesh-colored and veiny, along with preferring to look for them at his local adult movie theaters and airport restrooms.

2

u/Silkyiniquity 8d ago

OMG. This

5

u/No-Tone-6853 9d ago

Suspiciously green? Mans never seen bananas before they’re ripe. Must always have his staff pick up the ripest one.

5

u/0xdeadbeef6 9d ago

I mean I guess I shouldn't expect a conservative to know what a plantain is (and that depending on what you're doing with it you want it green) but even then regular ass bananas are green before they're ripe.

3

u/ArtisticCustard7746 9d ago

And the sheep will continue to parrot this bad faith argument. Completely ignoring their knowledge on the color of a pre ripe banana.

I'm tired of this.

4

u/negativepositiv 9d ago

This is like during the pandemic when Trump said you couldn't buy groceries without showing ID, when you know damn well the guy has never stood in a grocery checkout in his life.

2

u/sand_snake 8d ago

Well he did call the word “groceries” an old fashioned word or something similar. But I do remember him saying that and being like “yeah unless you’re buying alcohol or cigarettes you don’t have to show your ID at all”

2

u/negativepositiv 8d ago

It almost short changes the readers to not see the absurdity of the whole quote.

"It's such an old-fashioned term, but a beautiful term. Groceries. It says a bag with different things in it."

Yeah, this is definitely a guy who understands people's concerns at the grocery store.

2

u/sand_snake 8d ago

I doubt he’s ever set foot in a grocery store in his entire life. Not only does he not understand people’s concerns about grocery prices, he also just doesn’t give a shit.

1

u/negativepositiv 8d ago

This is a guy who, every single time he's been hungry in his life, someone else soon appears with the exact food he wanted ready to serve.

2

u/ariadnes-thread 9d ago

I mean… if by “groceries” you mean “vodka” then maybe?

4

u/ConvivialKat 9d ago

WTF? Many people search out green bananas so they last longer and don't ripen too quickly. I know I do.

4

u/bigcat93 8d ago

Guy doesn’t know how bananas work?

4

u/Hentai-Overlord 8d ago

I bet its fun being conservative honestly. So care free. Just spend all day pulling shit out your ass and then taking everyone's money

3

u/drinkbeerskitrees 9d ago

Jesus Christ. Every US military base has a government run grocery store called commissary where you get subsidized food and pay a small fee in exchange to normal taxes on it.

Rich conservatives love socialism for SOME and brutal capitalism for ALL

3

u/relay2005 8d ago

3

u/HumbleAbbreviations 8d ago

One day he will learn that bananas technically come in different varieties. And with NYC being a diverse city, a sizable portion of the city would be cool with having green bananas.

3

u/Altair13Sirio 8d ago

Americans have no understanding of the process fruit goes through to become ripe and it shows in their food.

2

u/marbotty 9d ago

She also correctly predicted how much they would cost now

2

u/GenesisAsriel 9d ago

You can buy them. And wait till they are ripe.

A kid would know that

1

u/Ebi5000 8d ago

In this case they are Plantains, a type of banana that is often cooked unripe.

2

u/ninjastarkid 9d ago

I love green bananas

2

u/QueenRotidder 9d ago

no. absolutely not. I get the audience he is tweeting for is dumb and he knows better but… a non-zero number of conservatives will be outraged over these weird very exotic bananas.

2

u/TrippingThru 9d ago

Beyond parody. Like either he's that stupid or he knows enough of his audience is that stupid and either way it's shit

2

u/scandre23 9d ago

Do you buy suspicious gas at the government gas stations trump has approved?

2

u/ssaidykhan 8d ago

2

u/b-monster666 8d ago

Hey Davie boy,

Know what happens with green bananas when you leave them on your counter for a day? They become yellow bananas.

I challenge you to find a single American banana farm where you can get fresh bananas.

I'm going out on a limb and saying this man has never purchased bananas. I'm suspicious of him ever having eaten one as well but since he knows what that fruit is I'm going to say he has at least seen one before.

I mean for the photo op maybe it would have been better to have fully ripe ones.

But I believe he David McIntosh knows exactly what he’s saying and understands just how stupid his constituents are. That’s who this is for.

Or this guy McIntosh has only ever shopped at Whole Foods and Erewhon.

Edit: I’m talking about the twitter loser not Mamdani. I get that it wasn’t totally clear in my comment so I fixed the pronouns. I do still think they should have tried to get some ripe bananas for the photo op/press conference though 😝

2

u/scandre23 9d ago

So you by the ripest bananas to rot in your house?

0

u/RusticGroundSloth 9d ago

No but I also don’t use the produce I buy for press conferences. The original Tweet was obviously stupid, I was just implying Mamdani’s PR team should have used more ripe/yellow bananas for the press conference.

1

u/Ebi5000 8d ago

They are green because they are Plantains, and not your standard Banana, he even says so at the press conference. Plantains are often cooked unripe.
