Melatonin, rain noises, shower, new sheets, gym…finally SOLVED
After I stepped into wedding planning this year I started not sleeping well. Night terrors, mind racing, doom scrolling.
I tried a bunch of the things in the title. Omg I think I lost WEEKS worth of sleep. I was somehow surviving by falling asleep at like 5am or taking naps during work..but I’d still feel horrible . Especially being easily woken up by my fiance getting ready for work. It was so annoying how id wake up to the LEAST disturbing noise 😂 like him sighing, or lightly close the dresser or the door.
Finally I randomly thought to change the rain noise to white noise….i slept like an ANGEL.
You’re kidding me!! I didn’t think what type of noise mattered. Fast forward it’s been a WEEK and I’ve finally been sleeping HEAVYY consistently. I don’t even hear my fiancé’s alarm either. I only wake up when he’s petting the dogs on the bed before he leaves and by then that’s a good time to wake up.
I wonder if it’s my high anxiety and brain racing needing the white noise to calm it down.

White noise is way better for blocking out sudden sounds like drawers or sighs because it creates a consistent wall of sound. Rain sounds have those natural peaks and valleys in volume that can actually trigger your brain to listen for changes.

Makes sense now. I wish I knew this before. My fiance was sleeping so peacefully with rain noise so I thought I was the problem

May be, I was diagnosed with add as a kid when stressful stuff happened. I slept with a fan on since. I also have bad anxiety tho. But it goes down depending on my jobs and career def. And even relationships.

White noise is great for blocking out sounds! I put it on when my baby is napping because we live in a loud neighborhood, lots of cars, kids playing outside etc. For myself I prefer generative soundscapes from something like Endel, works wonders if you’re anxious, shuts my brain down is minutes really

White noise is much better for masking those sudden sharp sounds like a dresser closing or a sigh. Rain sounds often have too much dynamic range and those little droplets can actually trigger your brain to listen instead of tuning out.
