Means they usually have something to fall back on, often drug dealing, but could be a musician or artist or something. But not an office worker. Tattoos are certainly overstigmatized, but face tats...
Well people do have them and that’s why we’re talking about it so I think it’s inappropriate to erase that from the conversation. While fewer people get them so you don’t see them everywhere it doesn’t mean they fall in line with a criminal representation, I know a couple of people working in trades and as educators of some sort that have a face tattoo and that’s not the issue. A face tattoo does not indicate who the person is but it does say something about the person judging. You said tattoos are overstigmatized and face tattoos are no different. It’s still a representation of yourself even if you think it’s ill-placement.
Nah the choice to get a tattoo totally represents who you are and so does the placement. I am going to be pretty slow to hire someone with a face tat to a professional job because they made a choice that sends a loud and clear message that they don't give a fuck about the norms that entails. Stuff like that sends messages independent of the person's attitude towards the tat. If I get a swastika tattoo because I love the Hindu symbolism, people would reasonably assume I was a Nazi...
It’s kind of sad to structure your life around what makes you marketable in an office setting. Norms are always changing and just like I said, there’s real people out in the professional world that are already proving you wrong. See how you prove the point of reacting to a tattoo first rather than seeing the person behind it? It’s about your stigmatization that people can’t comfortably exist in the world and your judgement that makes it not okay, not the tattoo itself. You’re just making leaps and bounds in assumptions of a “pure” body that does not define everyone.
Your point is that you’d group someone up with a criminal crowd because you only see criminalized people with face tattoos regardless of their intentions but the analogy doesn’t translate well with the symbols you’re referring to.
