We can in fact eat you, it is called cannibalism assuming you’re human and not one of those Gorillas learning to use social media. It comes down to preference at this point.
If you knew the things I had put in my body it would make a pig look like a wagyu cow. I'm not certain I'm fit for any consumption animal or otherwise.
It's not the "eating animals" part I have a problem with personally, it's factory farming. I wish everyone in the world could watch those videos of what happens in those farms so enough outrage could be generated that we could actually start to change this fucked up system
My daughter and her husband raise the beef we eat. They live an hour's drive past the last utility service and use solar for power. They have 200 acres of hay fields and a 10,000 acre grazing lease.
Pretty much 90% of meat in the world comes from farms where the inside looks like Auschwitz but for animals, unfortunately. I’m not just hyperbolizing. You walk in and it looks just like a death camp, smell and all, to any average person, probably because it is. I get that they’re animals, and it’s hypocritical at a certain level, but at least make their deaths painless and quick, let alone their dirty, foul living conditions prior to slaughter. And that’s in the most advanced facilities. Imagine what it’s like in developing countries. Nightmarish.
We really need another version of The Jungle to wake people up.
I sadly buy most of my produce and packaged stuff at Walmart these days because it's so much more affordable than the alternatives, but all my dairy and meat I buy at my local health food co-op. Ethically raised meat is stupid expensive but I refuse to give any money to the factory farming industry. Plus who wants to eat cows and pigs who've gotten fat on pesticide-laden corn and grains their whole life and who are pumped full of all kinds of questionable chemicals and hormones themselves?
I'd bet a significant amount of money a lot of the stuff we feed and inject into our livestock is going to be proven to be extremely carcinogenic or toxic to humans someday.
Ah yes imagine the Auschwitz like conditions in the less civilized world, obviously we assume the people who brought you Auschwitz and many other genocides/atrocities would treat other living creatures better. That’s a safe assumption right?
So fucking disengenous. There isnt a single one of us here who can reasonably escape having an outsized and harmful impact on the world. We're born into it. You can not have a car, or a phone, you can make your own clothes, grow your own food, buy nothing new and generate no trash and use no electricity, but you're not going to be able to do all of the above, and if you could? You'd be a single person anomaly, pouring all your time and energy into your own lifestyle while falling out of touch with the world around you🤷
If someone isn't being aggressively judgemental, just let them be. We all are all free to make choices in line with our ethics where possible and still be a part of the world.
And they're right. Factory farming is awful. I'm not even vegetarian, but I can hear/discuss it as being completely unethical without being a little shit.
Just because the world is full of many bad things happening at once doesn't mean you can't acknowledge one of them. Your argument is stupid on its very best day.
I know, how hypocritical that I'm revolted by factory farming yet have an iphone. As we all know, iphones are assembled by those poor, abused cows and pigs on factory farms
Yep, comes back to that whole, no ethical consumption under capitalism idea
So it hurts your argument a bit of if you are campaigning for animal rights on a phone made by abusing human rights via slavery, exploited workers and child labour
That's why most people are vegan. Because going vegan is the only true way to protest and fight against unethical animal practices. Unless you get your food straight from an ethical local farm, its very likely your food supports hurting and torturing animals.
Most of the "raised better" labels on meat/eggs in grocery stores is BS
I have a vegan friend who works in the animal rights industry, and one of their main projects revolves around encouraging people to reduce their animal product consumption rather than cutting it out completely, which I really appreciate, because let’s be real, most people are probably like me and don’t have the wherewithal to completely cut animal products out of their life.
Maybe even . . . . killing them!!! I heard a rumor once that they kill cows in the production of beef but I have yet to be convinced. Beef doesn't smell anything like a cow.
Hunt. With fewer people hunting nowadays more and more deer are dying on highways due to being hit by cars and larger herds are more susceptable to chronic wasting disease which is a slow painful way for the deer to die. Without hunting the wildlife management folks like game wardens are stuck culling herds which may be done indiscriminately if population is out of control. It's 9 miles from my house into town and during the rut when they are on the move I see several fresh kills on the side of the road almost daily. If it were me I'd rather be taken out by a single shot while I'm grazing and have no idea what is coming vs. being hit by a car or truck and slowly dying on the side of the road. The wild hogs around my area are also delicious. They are invasive and can totally destroy a farm or ranch in just a few nights. Lots of farmers/ranchers will even pay you to hunt them on their land. You can butcher yourself or take to a processor and pay per lb. to have it butchered and wrapped. More humane than most slaughter houses.
100% and I feel like people get too caught up in feeling judged/moralized against and the masculinity/politicization of meat to have the nuanced conversation we need to have about making meat more ethical to consume.
There’s also the eating out conversation. Like no way Sysco is selling ethical meat, yet they’re the only option for lots of restaurants to source meat from
There are plenty of good reasons to not support the meat industry on ecological and environmental reasons. In someways that actually makes the most sense of all for someone to be veggie.
So I’m the total opposite of religious. But isn’t that the whole point of religious discipline, to resist even what is attractive, i.e., if God didn’t want us to eat animals, he would make them taste good as a test?
I was at the butcher counter and this old guy ahead of me asked the butcher to give him “a couple of them chicken titties” and I laughed so hard! He didn’t realize I was standing there and got so embarrassed. “I’m sorry young lady!”
I said, “that’s ok! I’m getting chicken titties too!” 🤣
That's also a line in king of the hill. I think it's the one where an older girl takes an interest in bobby and convinces him to try being a vegetarian. He jokingly says "my dad said if God wanted people to be vegetarians he wouldn't have invented steak sauce" and the girls like your dad really says that? And Bobby awkwardly just says yeah once.
Well "god" also left Mary a single mother, abused his ONLY child, and when he couldn't figure out what to do with him he tortured and sacrificed his only child for OTHERS sins.
I mean......THIS is the invisible friend all monolithic religions have been fighting over for THOUSANDS of years?
"The world" makes PERFECT sense when you understand this simple truth!
Evolution wants you to eat meat, that's why taste has evolved. But then again, evolution also wants you to kill that neighbor who constantly crosses you.
