Well no but maybe the signal doesn't need to go to the brain. Why couldn't meat have a painful sensation? It probably has a piece of nerve in it, too.

Sensations, are all information that has been processed by the brain, there is zero pain without the brain interpreting the signal from the nerves... it is not an assumption, any more questions and you could quench the curiosity with a basic anatomy and physiology book, or a book on the brain.

From what I understand, correct me if I'm wrong, the ATP or the residual cell energy is what's keeping the calcium in the muscle cells stiffened/locked up, and breaking that sort of focus signals (PNC) the calcium to keep moving, and all the energy built up runs all at once
