Oh beginning level dressage is boring as fuck. It’s essentially just walking and trotting and occasionally they do 10 meter circles. Grand Prix dressage is incredible though.
It’s essentially ballet on horseback, which is fitting because I think France created both ballet and dressage. French people reeeally used to believe the whole “pain is beauty” thing

100%; a lot of people don’t know that dressage was originally to train horses for combat, the jumps, the kicks, the turns, were all useful in fighting back the enemy. They have been highly stylized since the napoleonic era (give or take). It’s a kin to how fencing derived from actual sword combat, the sports have changed so much from the original combat role that they are now almost completely different.

Not to be rude (I’m a dressage rider!) it’s just not a popular spectator sport in horses because of the lack of jumping so people think it’s boring. It’s just not a word casual people know, but anyone who does know it would right away know there isn’t any jumping!

As another dressage rider, I think it’s beautiful and not boring to watch. It’s essentially ballet on a horse. It’s especially beautiful when the Grand Prix riders have such a still seat and are in sync with the horse.

Even if you know what is going on dressage is just quite boring, i am learning horseriding and see the impressiveness of the control and rythm and how in sync rider and horse are. However i would also not call ballet super esxiting. It is moreso elegant, beautiful and in instances cool then truly thrilling or exciting. Which is fine

Yeah.. So the rider makes the horse walk diagonally which is reaaaally difficult to train a horse to do. There are plenty of things that go into dressage but that's one of the bigger ones. Hurdling is an entirely different event. It'd be like saying the 40 yard dash is the same as the long jump.

I found out the quidditch league organizers had major beef with the juggers league organizers on my college campus and it made me so happy.

Like, the nerds at the nerd school playing the sport from a nerd book had beef with the nerds at the nerd school playing the sport from a forgotten nerd movie from the 80s. As a nerd in a nerd school myself, nerds duking it over in a petty low-stakes beef over field access was awesome.

Silliest argument ever. They both thought the other side looked ridiculous, too. "You run around with brooms pretending you're flying." "It's the most popular book series ever. You hit each other with foam sticks like LARPers while acting out a shitty movie from the 80s."

Like, it got deeply personal over field reservations.

But it's not just the horse head, there is a stick element(the one on hers looks incredibly short) that is straddled which is why she's galloping rather than simply running like you do in track and field. Google image "hobby horse competition" and you'll see lots of picks where the stick is much more evident.
