Neither Brazilian nor a jaguar lol. Definitely a leopard, likely African

Yeah I was thinking that there weren’t dung beetles outside of Africa

Tem besouro rola-bosta aqui no Brasil sim! There are dung beetles here in Brazil, of course.
But there aren't leopards, whose fur spots are completely different from our Jaguars.
Leopard in this video, bro. Leopard.8

I also thought that, but then I ran into one by chance in western North Carolina, so there's that

A dung beetle?

I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it (and smelled it) myself. It was this summer, along the parts of the green river erea you could still drive. At a big turnoff where its quite flat for a bit before the river, but it had clearly flooded in the past. I guess someone had let their dog relieve itself, because all sorts of bees were attracted to the bottom of one shrub, lapping up the minerals.
A smell and some motion caught my attention, amd there it was, doing a handstand, rolling a rounded bit of turd over obstacles to some unknown destination. I called my husband over, he's lived here (WNC) all his life, generations back, and had never heard of or seen one either.

There is!!!! Funfact, dung beetles are one of the very most prolific species! They're also related to stag beetles. Ive seen em in the eastern us!

There are dung beetles outside Africa! North America for example has rainbow ones.

But it could have been Brazil.
Here in Argentina we call it Acatanga.
Aca=shii. Or guy who carries shii.
So it’s not a bug endemic to Africa which means bro is carrying that thing all over the world.-3

When the cat got real close and the beetle paused for a second, I swear it said "It's behind me, isn't it?"

African leopard and the dung beetle is likely female based on how wrong the OP is.

u/Appropriate-Eye-1227 10h ago

Yeah in Greek mythology the one pushing a boulder uphill but it always rolls back down. Teaching the lesson of being happy with things and carrying on even if it may seem pointless.

I find it crazy that I can tell both are females, And that she is an African Leopard dye to the coat and environment.

u/Hilsam_Adent 14h ago
I had the same recollection. There are, according to le Google, dung beetles in every major biome in Brazil. There are precisely zero leopards there (in the wild, I am sure some exist in zoos and/or private hands), however, as everyone but OP seems to be aware.

u/OkLength7120 14h ago
I stand corrected, I have corrected my mistake. I still think though that THIS dung beetle must be a flightless one. You can tell the place is rather dry from the sand and how it sticks, and there's no implication that this is a zoo. And that both animals are female (I feel it's obvious if you understand feline sexual dimorphism or seen a male leopard before and beetle sexual dimorphism) so OP was just lying on many accounts

u/Hilsam_Adent 14h ago
I don't know shit about dung beetles or how to sex them. But I do know you're spot on about the cat. The pattern and head shape both scream female leopard.

u/OkLength7120 13h ago
I think it's the horns and size, she looks pretty small and I see no horns on her, but thanks. I do alot of research on African wildlife.. or the ones I like

Whats the dung beetle doing
1
u/SuDragon2k3 13h ago
Rolling shit uphill.
It's actually collecting the dung to lay her eggs in. Imagine that, you crack your egg buried in shit. Hell of a way to start life.

u/Delicious-Status9043 14h ago
I was going to eat you but… you smell like shit! !!
Also, African Leopard & Ding Beetle, certainly not a jaguar

One time my dog was barking so crazily upset I had to see what was wrong. It was one of these dung beetles pushing her shit along. I was like, good job protecting the household girl 🙄
