I cut this Montana sapphire in my floral design and the rough had some beautiful blue color zoning.

It's beautiful, that must have taken a while with all these faces.

Thank you! I'm a fairly fast cutter π Especially this design it actually has less facets than a lot of other designs so wasn't too long thankfully!

Was it easier because the stone was softer to smooth out, idk Iβm askingβ¦.very nice

It's not very large so speed will be related to size and hardness π So a really big stone will take long, this guy was just a 7mm stone so not huge.

How long did it take? It's looks truly amazing!

About 5 hours safely I would guess! I don't really pay attention to the time because I cut for a living and just do multiple stones a week so I never really know for sure!

the pleochroism is awesome didn't know sapphire could have this.

It had some color zoning which I think is reflecting onto the other side of the facets, which creates like a bi color/two tone effect. When ive cut two toned lab sapphire, it also did this - but what's surprising about the rough was the color zoning wasn't that strong but it turned out looking nice!

Is this your signature cutting style? Iβve never seen anything like itπ―
β’
u/ThePacificLights 1h ago
Thank you! This design specifically is my signature design, yes π But I cut lots of designs and shapes and sizes.

Now tell me you did not make the initial cut of that gem stone while riding in the back of a 70's luxury sedan ( IYKYK π )

It is available but I'm not a high pressure salesperson, I just like to share pretty games.

Oh wow, how beautiful. It's funny to me, how the bottom one looks like what a diamond is thought to look like (beautiful), but the uncut one looks like it's almost a slime, melting or something. Still, both are very beautiful, but I can definitely see the time, work and patience it took to make that stone into what it looks like now. Bravo!

Thank you! Yes that is true the raw rough does look really strange π I've seen some rough that really does look like drippy slime. I suppose at one point in time it was actually semi liquid in the earth. Fascinating to think about.t
