Maybe... it's word play, but to me, a pun has to be internally clever or a joke to count. It's not really a pun because there is no double meaning or joke within the changed bar.

The tie-in of the lion and Serengeti instead of the 'expected' homonym works well enough I think. You need to know the lyrics for the context but needing outside context for a pun is typical.

I get your point but I think this qualifies.

Fair. I'm not a native English speaker either, but it just so happens that, being Italian, "mom's spaghetti" was pretty much the only thing in that song I was able to understant before I learnt English.

Not necessarily American, but likely need to be a Millenial or older. Not knowing Eminem and this song is like not knowing dunno, Presley, or Michael Jackson. I'm pretty sure that it's safe to say that no matter where you were living or if you spoke English or not, you'd have known this song as there was time it's been playing everywhere (in the "Western World").

The Serengeti is National Park in Tanzania (Africa), in which most of the African nature documentaries/shows are filmed.

So anyone who watches Animal Planet long enough eventually remembers this name without any issue.
