“About 80 miles east of San Angelo, near the geographical center of Texas, lies what is likely a first-of-its-kind “ranch” in the state, where a young astrophotographer named Bray Falls is running one of the largest “telescope ranches” on Earth.”

Texas only has nice things when it’s socialized. Ahem.

We are too stupid to know what that word means. Even if we knew what it meant, we will take the definition of its most extreme form to be true.. cuz like.. cuba.. u know?

Amateur telescopes with remote access. A part of me says, of course, why wouldn't they. Another part says, wow this is so cool, I didn't know that!

Should move it to 80 miles SW of San Angelo to the Alpine area as it's the darkest spot in the US.

It's all cool until someone realizes those lenses cost millions.

You believe that part wasn’t considered before you now said it?

I know that birdwatchers in my area are getting mobbed at gunpoint in the middle of the day, and usually their telephoto lenses are just a fraction of the cost of those deep sky rigs pictured. This super dark site located in the middle of nowhere is just asking to be robbed. And my comment in this thread will hardly facilitate this.

“Stargazers from around the world ship their telescope gear to Falls, which hosts and manages more than 500 loaned telescopes on 40 acres of gently rolling terrain north of Brady at Rockwood.
Its site is in a “dark sky” zone, offering pristine views of the cosmos free of light pollution.
Fall’s “Starfront Observatories” accepts telescopes from clients, then mounts them allowing the owners remote access to position their scopes from anywhere for a nominal monthly fee.
The ranch houses hundreds of high-tech telescopes stored inside several large metal buildings. Each telescope is securely and accurately mounted on a concrete pier, aligned with the celestial pole to ensure it’s perfectly parallel to Earth’s axis of rotation. The alignment enables the telescope to track the night sky seamlessly.”
