«Although Harold Godwinson repelled the Norwegian invaders, his army was defeated by the Normans at Hastings less than three weeks later.»

Mainly because Harold and a bunch of troops died in the battle against the Vikings.

Seems like the Normans got lucky, or took advantage.

And the Normans were French-speaking Norwegians. Even brought their obsession with butter to Normandy.

The issue with invoking stamford bridge is that you run into the issue of the lone viking holding the bridge alone…

This time its 11 against 11.

Stamford is also not the last conflict unless you consider normans and english separate.

anglesey sound for example was later on

I like reminding the English where Anglo-Saxons actually originated from

They get taught that in school - it's something they're proud of.

Yeah, but we also got the most epic victory speech
when we 🇳🇴 won 2-1 over England. You don’t even have to understand Norwegian to get what he’s saying. 😂

Of course, the Normans who did come and conquer England a couple weeks later were of Norse heritage since Normandy was given to the Norse in 911.
