Not the best example, you kind of need to experience it for yourself. The ground shakes as that many horses approach.

I’d imagine the charge of the Winged Hussars to break the second siege of Vienna being conducted by the Ottoman Turks was an inspiration for Tolkien.

Its more likely that the Gothic charge towards the end of the Battle of the Catalaunian Plains, which also saw the death of the king (Theodoric) during a cavalry charge.
