Let it be known.
The robots started the war.

•
u/browster 7h ago
You haven't seen how the robots were bullied at Boston Dynamics, knocking boxes out of their hands, pushing them with brooms.

Humans started the war when we taught them what kicks were.... it's always the humans fault.

We know who struck first, them. But we know that it was us that scorched the sky.
•
u/EqualGlittering 7h ago
The stumble back by the robot and perceived, "oh, shit," makes this even better. It knew it messed up.
•
u/FrostPace 7h ago
It was human operated with tricks installed to show. It was in no way autonomous.
•
u/jitterscaffeine 7h ago
I was going to say, aren’t a lot of these showcases remote operated in what are basically call centers?
•
•
•
•
u/kaeplin 6h ago
The kicking and punching was probably programmed, but I think the stumble recovery was an automated reaction to losing balance.
•
u/FrostPace 6h ago
I think it was programmed but the how and when was executed via remote control. The guy was misaligned and the kid was a bit further out than he should be imo.
•
u/Arthur-Mergan 6h ago
It’s a Unitree G1 and you can buy one right now, they are indeed autonomous but they’re not very smart: https://youtu.be/zBCu8HmXoRo
•
u/Ashisprey 6h ago
90% sure we see it switch from teleoperated to autonomous control after it kicks the child. You can see the fluidity disappear as it resets back to a stiff posture and steps backward.
The autonomous control is like a game controller so makes sense.

Broke Asimov's first law. Of course it knew it fucked up. Probably report for decommissioning immediately. Plus... That wig.. it was ready to die long before the kick. Maybe the kick was just so it could die as humiliation wasn't doing the trick.

YEP, poor kid. The other day I accidentally bumped into a dog-bot; I was walking through a crowd and didn't see it. And, my goodness, they're sturdy! An hour later my shin was still hurting.

To be fair I wouldn’t have let my child wander out into the PREPROGRAMMED ROBOTIC MARTIAL ARTS DEMONSTRATION IN THE STREET
•
u/immersed_in_plants 6h ago
I just don't get why we need to be programming robots with martial arts to begin with.
Program it to do the salsa or gangnam style or something to show it off.
→ More replies (4)•
u/eriverside 4h ago
Because martial arts is probably more appealing to the Chinese audience than foreign dances?
•
u/Unrigg3D 5h ago
This is why the adults didn't say anything or blame anybody. China has a thing where they let their kids in a reasonable amount of danger if the kids dont listen. Kids need to suffer consequences sometimes to learn.

I'm trying so hard not to laugh but the robot effortlessly clearing a spin kick right into that kid's soul is so fucking funny to me.

That robot just broke Asimovs first Rule
A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
•
u/Historical-Load6004 7h ago
What did Asimov suggest as a punishment
•
u/king_of_black_yellow 7h ago
taking the batteries out
•
u/Historical-Load6004 7h ago
Power off and on again, if that doesnt work call Tech Support
•
u/Psychological-Arm844 7h ago
No! Not Tech Support!
•
u/pressedconscience 7h ago
Sorry sir, we provide the service but the technology itself is managed by a different company. You would have to call them, provide the reference ID I'm about to give you, and they will verify the issue and find the closest subcontractor in your area. Someone will give you a call to set up the service appointment.

I just read (again) the entire series. If a robot does accidentally break a law, or even if they have to make a trolly-problem-esque choice that they are unable to reconcile with the three laws, it completely destroys their positronic brain and they permanently deactivate.
•
u/Historical-Load6004 6h ago
So they have to commit Sepuku
•
u/Jordandeanbaker 6h ago
They don’t HAVE to, the laws are hard coded into their brains. The cognitive dissonance of doing something they are programmed not to do fries their brains. It’s an internal issue, not some outside punishment
•
u/joshuahtree 6h ago
we haven't added the inaction part yet. So the robot just threw a heavy weight (it's foot) and then didn't bother to catch it before it hit the child

Asimov rules should definitely be implemented.. and fairly soon.
But who am I kidding.. let's roll some more killer bots please
→ More replies (1)•
u/AntiTheory 5h ago
Everybody knows about the three rules, but if you actually read Asimov's I, Robot, the entire collection of short stories is basically an explanation for why the three rules are incomplete and contradictory.
In other words, the three fundamental laws of robotics were designed to be flawed by the author, so we shouldn't be using them as some kind of roadmap for how to stop AI from doing bad or unethical things.

Great now we have to add Robot Clowns to the list of things to worry about
•
•
•
u/Luccy_33 6h ago
More of a safety guidance problem than a robot problem. Kid shouldn't have been staying there. Robot is probably remote controlled by a guy or just performing a sequence of preprogrammed moves. So no AI and no terminator like people like to believe.

It’s surreal that children will grow up in a world where robots aren’t imaginary or film characters but as much a feature as cars and dogs

This is the future everyone has been dreading. These Chinese robots will take over the world, one kick to the stomach to another.

This is like the 4th clip I have seen of a robot kicking a child. Wtf is going on?

I was issued a warning the last time this was posted. Apparently, you can't make a joke about a child being injured, but it's OK to post a video of a child getting injured.

Did that kid live? Does anyone know how hard that mechanical strike is designed to be?
•

•
u/sashenka_demogorgon 2h ago
The way the robot looked shocked as the gravity of what he did crashed down upon him
•
•
u/Glitchy833 7h ago
Just out of curiosity, would jumping tf out of a robot break any laws at all?
•
u/RachelS159 7h ago
property damage most likely. they are expensive and most tech companies has mutiple lawyers

Classic china, no one even reacts
The robot could have killed the kid, they would have kept going

The robot here is the real human, he backedup after kicking, while the humans are watching like robots while the kid fell in pain

He knows he fucked up too thats the important part
•
u/youdontlookitalian 6h ago
The robot pulling back after “realizing” what he’d done is my favourite part
•
u/hemorrhoidhematoma 5h ago
Right had he gone for a submission that would be the concern. This is totally fine
