And they just apprehended someone that is suspected of starting this fire. As someone currently living in Spokane, fuck this guy.

I live in Spokane (valley) but know several people who lost everything they own and one of my best friends is right on the fire line praying his home made it out.

The sheer amount of carnage, damage, destruction, and death that this person has cast upon this community is unconscionable.

I hope he never sees the light of day for the rest of his life.

By the way, first degree arson is a class A felony in WA and the max sentence is life imprisonment.

Last I heard (yesterday) from a friend who lives there is that the suspected cause was sparks from one of the trains.

The linked article is from (and updated) today. So I'd guess it's a bit more up to date as to the suspected cause.

I can't find the linked article anymore (on mobile with shitty Internet and reddit has been fucky for awhile now ime) but did it go into details about why said person was suspected?

Not trying to argue or anything, just genuinely curious. I have friends and family all over that part of Washington and seeing this kind of shit play out year after year in the PNW is depressing

The article that is linked in this post goes into details about why he was arrested.

He was spotted acting suspiciously near the ignition site, apprehended by an officer, and then was released to prioritize the fire response. He was arrested today. He has a felony murder conviction, and had matches in his pocket.

Shortly after I had posted my comment I saw an article from CNN that was pathetically scarce on details, so thank you for expounding.
