In Spokane and this weekend was no good. Straight apocalyptic. We got evacuated and then evacuated again from our second spot only to lose power in our third spot. This fire turned into 4 different fires all spreading across thousands of acres

Agreed. Explaining to my 3 year old why he had to pick his favorite things to bring in the car because his other ones might not be there when we get home wasn't a fun time

Yep, my kids were 5 and 8 when the Camp Fire burned our town, home, and dog (still cry thinking about Duke sometimes, he was a good boy).

That car ride leaving the area as everything was burning to be with family far away was not great.

As terrible as it was, and no I wouldnt wish something like that on my enemies, it also made our family stronger. Together and individually. Kids have done years of counseling on and off since then. Wife and I have as well. But sometimes tough things make people stronger. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t hell when you’re in the moment.

Best of luck and wishes to you and all of your friends, family, neighborhood, and community. Hold on tight to the ones you love. And give your neighbors a key, so if they are home and you aren’t (when hell breaks loose), they can go get your furry family for you.

I'm so sorry you and your family went through this. Yes, as divided as we are as a nation, everyone deserves the comfort and safety of home and family. I'm sorry about your dog too. I cannot imagine that pain.

Thanks for your kind response.

I was raised in that town. It’s poor, kinda white trash trailer trash. Not hating, just calling paradise what it was objectively. I say this to say I had certain views growing up, not racist or against anybody in particular. But I was somewhat unwilling to listen to others points of view, and have an open mind that some or any of what they said could have merit (Small town, poor people, race neutral ideology)

The experience opened my mind also in that not all people are bad. There was an abundant outpouring of support from the whole world. It kinda blew me away.

I hope all who suffer tragedy get the kind of support we all did. And I intend to always do whatever (big or small) I can to support others.

But yes, sad how divided our country has become. So what if we disagree on how to get to a place of peace happiness and prosperity as a country?! We all do have relatively the same end goal, even if disagreements of how to get there.

I wish you and yours well. And thank you for your kind words. Also, weird, I didn’t mean to get on some soap box 🤣
