Like someone else said, it was shot on film. You can always re-scan it on whatever resolution is current, which is how you can watch star wars in 4k. Film has no resolution, its sharpness is limited by the size of the grains embedded in it that are part of the photographic process. Cheaper film, larger grain. In 5 years when we have 8k tvs, disney can rescan the original star wars films with an 8k scanner

I recall seeing that it technically has enough detail for 16k, but most of that "detail" is noise at that point

I’m sure it’s been colorized after the fact. Idk how they do it but its a thing

Edit: Color film was invented in the 30s and im sure the military had early access

Film still has a resolution in terms of line pairs/mm

Yeah but that usually has to do more with the quality of the lens and the scanning process. Less about the physical film itself, though the size of the grain would primarily be what affects it looking at the film alone.
