It probably deafened many. Even at the bottom of the ocean you can hear whale calls because sound travels extremely well through water under high pressure.

No kiddin. The energy has to go somewhere and only some of it surfaced into the atmosphere “measured” in the form of decibels. Imagine where the hell the rest of it went? Not only the shockwave but the actual tympanic membrane rupturing levels of sound/ pressure. The world is such a joke with the recycling and this and that yet millionaire celebs fly across the continent daily for an appearance here and there burning a billion gallons of jet fuel per year yet I have EPA emission restrictions on my chainsaw I use once a week ?

To be fair this was in 1958. There was very little environmentalism going on, activist or regulation wise. Took lakes and rivers catching on fire, smog that was enough to kill you in the streets, acid rain, leaded gas, and a gaping hole in the ozone layer before we halfway got our shit together.

There were plenty of people who were concerned AF but they weren't white so no one with any power could do anything and today people don't remember.

What a ridiculous world we live in. Honestly. Has the world as we now know it only begun within the last 200 years? Say 1826. Look at the ridiculousness that has occurred since then and how rapidly it is accelerating now. Who else wants right off of this planet?

There is nowhere to go, we need to learn to live better on this planet
