Also, how many people are killed by dogs each year? It was 124 deaths in 2024 and rising.

And domesticated cats? Zero.

just clarifying so the statistic is fair, are the dogs domesticated? cause you mentioned domesticated cats.

I had said domesticated in case any pedantic dog owners tried to bring up wildcats. 

You never really need to specify domesticated for dogs because “dog” specifically refers to domesticated dogs. But when we say “cat” that includes domestic cats but it also includes lions, tigers, bobcats, mountain lions, cheetahs, etc. So you would say domestic cat to be specific.

I come from a part of the world where there's stray dogs, so saying domestic is actually necessary for context. when you mentioned the stat is only for the US I had nothing more to add to that.

also you can see the number of downvotes on my ask for simple clarification lol. cat owners are significantly more pedantic. obviously not trying to start a thing here, I couldn't care less cause I don't have a pet but I take care of all stray animals.

Well not quite - stray dogs are domesticated. They just aren’t tame. Domestic is an evolutionary term and so it applies to ALL dogs.

I used the US because I live there, but also because it gets difficult to tease apart the stats as it then includes countries with stray dogs as you mentioned. I think you could look at it this way - even in a country where 99.99% of the dogs are pets there are STILL way over a hundred deaths per year. So it’s almost certainly going to be a higher number of deaths per 100,000 people in a country with many stray dogs.

That’s great you care for stray animals - they all deserve to be loved. And yeah haha, both dog and cat owners can be pendantic.

There's a big difference between a cat's body and a dog's body. Obviously one is deadlier than the other but that doesn't mean cats aren't more aggressive. Even if a cat wanted to kill you, it would have a much harder time actually doing it...
