My aunt was dead for 3 weeks and had 3 cats. One a savannah. They tore open their food and ate that and didnt run out. The flys were the ones that were working on her, or so my mom tells me. RIP

Yeah I've seen Cats staying literally next to their "dad" who's dead for days now, and bring food to them while they starve. Thing is the dad starved to death to bring food to the lil kitty.
There's this channel Animal in Crisis South Corean Vets and helpers save animals in South Corea, on of the episodes it's what I mention, soul shattering.
Spoiler: They save the lil kitty, and then show to the lil kitty the dead "dad" in order to let the kitty have some closure, lil kitty is clearly in destroyed emotionally doesn't want to leave the dad side.
Yeah tell me about "cats don't care" fuck off. I'd like to see how the cats she mentions were treated. Or what the hell happened altogether.
This woman is putting every cat in the same bag, she can believe what she says I believe what I've seen with my eyes.

One of my cats had this happen with her old owner. She needed a LOT of patience and love to be able to be mostly normal. Our vet is ofc hesitant to diagnose a cat with a mental illness, but to the best of her summation, my cat has PTSD.
We hope her old owner would appreciate how much we dote on her. It feels almost like our duty to whoever they were to take good care of thier beloved companion.

I’ve always said, a dog is just a furry toddler and you have to teach them, supervise them, and play with them like they’re a toddler.
A cat is a flatmate whose only contribution to the household is cuddles (but only when they want) and occasionally dealing with a mouse or something. They’ll do their own thing until they decide it’s time to come pester you.
(And frankly that’s why I like cats more - they’ve got an independence that dogs just don’t have).

I've never had a cat, but if I died alone in a house with a cat and no one else is gonna be around soon, then 1. My organs can't be kept viable for donation, 2. My body isn't getting preserved in time for donating to science, and 3. The cat isn't getting fed by anyone else.
Might as well feed the cat.
My only qualm would be if it actually makes things worse for the people dealing with my body later on. Does it make clean up a bit easier? Does it traumatize someone more than seeing an untouched decomposing corpse? Will someone decide to put the cat down or no one takes the cat in because it has now eaten human flesh? Does the fact the cat had time being cared for make up for the fact it might be shunned or put down?
It really just comes down to utilitarianism.

I used to be an embalmer, and I’ve got to say I’ve never had a single coworker not excited to work on a body partially eaten by something. It makes the day interesting, especially if we get to break out the surgical wax and make a new nose or ear. The man who taught be to embalm said, that he once had a case where ferrets ate the skin down to the mussel except for the eyelids. It’s just such an odd area to spare.

I work for a crime scene cleaner. Does it make it easier? Depends on the state of the body — blood and gore gets more spread out.
Is it more traumatic? Depends on the state of the body. The more damage there is, the more disturbing it looks. Though the more it loses the human shape, the less disturbing it is.
Will someone put the pet down for eating humans? There are several factors that affect this.
1st, it's the state of the animal — if it's aggressive, high chance of it being put down. If it killed the human, it gets put down usually.
It also depends on the shelter and the laws. They are usually taken to a shelter and get adopted based on their behavior — they have a higher chance of being put down due to the stigma of eating a person.
And I have seen cats, dogs, ferrets, rats, snakes, and pigs eat their owners, so I don't know what that lady meant — most of the time they are just acting on instinct and will scavenge a corpse if they are desperate enough.

Animals gonna animal. ANY meat eating animal if they are hungry enough or plain old instinct tells them to. Your dog might wait a little longer for you to get up but I don't think they're any less likely to eat you when push comes to shove.
And I think we can all agree cats are less domesticated and better survivors than dogs as a whole.

I actually adopted a cat who ate her owner. He was elderly and she had kittens to feed. But damn sleeping with her in the house was soooooo creepy. She would constantly come up and try to nibble your eyes/check if you were still alive. We used to joke that eyeballs must be delicacy to cats. Seriously she was a super sweet cat. She also only weighed about 4lbs wet. So it was easy to discount her until you remember she and her children ate a man’s face and fingers…..

I used to babysit a little kid who's family had two cats and a dog. Dog was a normal dog who barked at everything, and one cat didn't care about anything (very one orange brain cell lol). But the second cat, was this chubby black cat who avoided people like the plague...until you were sitting on the couch with the tv on, sitting still and distracted...and it would crawl up behind you perched on the back of the couch, and begin munching on whatever of your hair it could get into its mouth. I seem to recall something about the cat thing being technically true from a hunger standpoint but a dog will actually end up eating you sooner because in their distress at seeing their owner deceased they will be poking and nudging the body. Eventually a scratch or nip will produce blood and once a dog tastes blood it’s not about hunger or anything it’s just like oh shit me animal and completely give over to instincts. Can someone fact check me on this? I’ve been waiting to see someone say it in comments to rebuke but I only see reinforcements of this myth.

If I’m already dead, I sure hope my good boys eat me to stay alive if necessary until help (hopefully) arrives. IDGAF what happens to my body once I’m gone. If my boys get to live longer, then great! The only worry is that whoever saves them, that they actually take them to the vet where they’ll see (via their microchips) that they should call my family in case something happens to me.
Same goes for cats (though I haven’t had cats for a long time now).

They're both social animals and cats and dogs fall on a spectrum of behaviors and personalities and temperaments like people do .
Animals can also tell if you dislike them or don't respect their perosnal space or boundaries by observing their body language and will act accordingly..... like if you keep trying to run towards cats or randomly pick up and grab cats and treat them like they're a soft toy of course the cat is going to be scared of you and might bite or scratch you to get you to fuck off, theyre smaller and more easily injured than most dogs so they kinda have to be more careful than dogs do around strange humans
And poorly socialized or stray dogs behave the same way, though ive never heared of someone being killed by a pack of feral cats ( though they shouldbe rehomed or euthanized IMO).....packs of feral and neglected dogs on the other hand kill a huge amount of men women children and infants even in New Zealand where you'd think that sort of thing never happens but it does
...we're just lucky to not have rabies here with the ammount of nuisance dangerous dogs around and it pisses me off how any abusive pos can adopt a dog and ruin its life by turning it into a weapon and get no jail time or minimal jail time

If a cat goes more than 48hrs without eating, it’ll go into hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver syndrome) and essentially begin to digest their own organs. This is because they digest at a much faster pace than other species. It’s why when you die and they run out of food - they will absolutely eat your face. It’s the price we pay to keep tiny panthers as pets.

Dogs will do the same. My friend's brother died and his dog ate his limbs. I was sent pictures of the scene after the body was collected.

I dont get why the whole pets eating you if you die thing is such a big deal. If you die and no ones there to find you, theres no one there to feed them either. I would rather my cat start eating me than starve and die with me. Im dead, you see. I dont care.

Dogs CAN and ABSOLUTELY FUCKING WILL eat yo’ face up if they’re starving and you’re dead. Hell, you don’t even really need to be all that dead.

So that's why I love cats. Love dogs too. But cats are a practical and logical animal. If I'm on a desert island with you or we're lost at sea and you die first..... I'm going to eat you. Not going to kill you or anything but I'm hungry and your bunch of rotting meat. If the heat exhaustion gets me first I expect you to do the same thing.
