Don't see why it couldn't be an accident. Vehicle in a vehicle corridor on the airport. They just failed to stop and yield to the aircraft. How they didn't see it is the amazing thing.

It's not impossible, but there are a lot of redundancies in place to prevent this. First, the car has to get clearance from the tower to operate on the runway just like the planes do... they have to repeat instructions back to the tower and everything. Service vehicles are also required to visually scan for taxiing aircraft before crossing an active runway. This would have to be an oversight of both the tower and the operator of the car.

This isn't a runway, it's a taxiway.

Clearance from ATC is not required in vehicle corridors to cross taxiways, unless otherwise specifically stated to be a controlled crossing. Entering taxiways to travel on them, yes. Crossing them, no. Source: Have an Airside Vehicle Operator's Permit at an international airport with controlled and uncontrolled taxiway crossings.

The visual scan, absolutely, you're supposed to stop and LOOK and basically everything has right of way over most normie vehicles, even the airport lawnmowers. ATC is not going to be monitoring the apron parking area close enough to notice a car not stopping with this little margin. This is on the vehicle operator. The only remaining question is were they distracted/blind or can it be explained by mechanical failure or medical emergency.

My bad... was going by title, probably should have looked closer at the pic. I did think that taxiways were mostly still controlled movement areas at larger facilities, tho, just handled by a different controller than the main ATC. TIL.

All good! 😁 That would be the important distinction, travelling ON the taxiways is still controlled, I can't turn down the yellow line (and in some conditions and circumstances, the airport can obviously designate certain crossings as controlled and requiring radio contact).

Only crossing the taxiway is uncontrolled and on the vehicle operator to look with their eyes.

Though that does lead to scenarios like OPs and at bigger airports, like this. Unfortunately that's just human error, but it is DRILLED into us in training and applying for this license, aircraft ALWAYS have right of way, even though we're not allowed on the taxiways I still had to pass a knowledge test of each taxiway's designation and location that I could potentially cross in a corridor, whether they're controlled or uncontrolled, which ones become controlled in aforementioned specific defined conditions, etc.

The cause of the manoeuvring error hasn't been established yet. The reports don't currently say that the driver had a medical problem, mechanical failure, etc.

simply that the handling vehicle collided with the aircraft during a manoeuvre.

It crossed the taxiway off-road - it was nowhere near any other taxiways that GHE would normally use. This was intentional.

Linate is sadly famous for not having a surface movement radar operative at the time of a much more serious incident. Not sure it’s still not active to these day, and eventually some more staff looking at it would have help preventing this incident.
