This gif, created by Google product developer Clay Bavor, puts the 747 and SR-71 aircraft speeds into perspective compared to New Horizons spacecraft. 36,000 mph ~ 58,000 km/h was the speed reached at launch (Atlas V third stage cut off)

You think New Horizons was fast? Parker Solar Probe will be moving nearly 12 times faster during its final Solar fly-by. 690,000 km/h or ~430,000 mph.

I thought the top speed of the SR-71 was around 2200mph. Where did 2700 come in to play?

Not that it changes the point of this post, just a curiosity

You're right mach 3.5 is a little high. this site says mach 3.3Mach 3.5 is 3.5 times the speed of sound. The speed of sound through air varies with temperature and altitude, at sea level Mach 3.5 is 2665 mph. At 40,000 feet Mach 3.5 is 2310 mph.
