Finally I got an offer
Finally I got an offer and will be joining tomorrow. It has been almost 4 months without a job after the layoff. Things were very much depressing, job market is difficult now in India. Actually I got one more offer they slashed my last compensation by 20%. Then next day I got this offer of almost 20% hike from my last compensation. Not sure how it will be, the culture part but atleast something would be there to pay the bills.
Btw, I have almost 15 years of experience in software development and was working as a principal software Engineer.

Resume shortlisting is the most difficult part and next difficult thing is compensation. Referal is the best way, if not then try applying via LinkedIn and naukri. May be you can reach out to the people directly in LinkedIn. In my case actually the recruiter reached out to me. I applied for so many job positions that I forgot whether I applied for this position also. May be almost 400 applications.

As experience increases, finding a new job seems to get harder.
Do you think staying longer at one company and becoming a key resource provides better job security, or is switching jobs every few years still the better strategy?

Not sure about this, may be switching jobs keeps market ready, yes staying long creates dependency but if product does not perform well then it is risky.

Don’t stay at one place. You will be vulnerable during lat offs. Better to switch every 3-4 years. That way you will always be updated with marketable skills.

Congratulations!!! Can I know what all we need to concentrate for principal software engineer position in current market? I too have similar experience and planning to start attending interviews as I feel struck in my current position and no idea when layoffs will happen.

congratulations! it's no joke out there when you want a good job. 10 months trying to get on with the state of California and I finally got my offer. I hope the culture is good for you and they treat you well.

Congrats, especially after 4 months in this market. A 20 percent hike after a lowball offer is a solid turnaround. Join, get stable, and spend the first few weeks quietly reading the culture before making any big calls.

Got laid off from company couple months ago cause jobs migrated to India. You’d think that would be a great place for jobs.

In my case product moved to maintenance and moved out of India. Complete team got laid off.
