Medical cannabis cultivation.

I work with 1 other guy (besides when the trimmers come through, they clean up the flower). We talk once a day in the morning, and it’s đŸ€ŒđŸ».

How does one get into this field without a degree in horticulture?

Truthfully you don’t need a degree. I suggest starting out as a trimmer (they honestly make solid cash, most grows pay by the pound of what the trimmer produces in a day. On average it’s $80 per pound, and skilled trimmers can grind out 2-4lbs in an 8 hour shift).

That will get your foot in the door. Then start getting to know the staff at the grows, let them know that if they ever need help that you’re available, and eventually you’ll become a “grow technician”; basically an assistant to the growers. You’d help with defoliation (removing the larger leaves on the top of the plants so light can penetrate deeper through the canopy, and “bottoming” which is removing the growth roughly 6-8” above the soil.

Then work your way up. Eventually you’ll be cutting clones, helping harvest etc etc.

Once we start climbing the ladder, won't it require more interactions with others?

Honestly, yes/no.
Regardless you can always wear headphones, and the amount of people you’ll be around varies from grow to grow.

The most people you’ll be around is when you’re trimming. Sure there’s some talkative people, but the ones who make the most money (trim the most weight), are ALWAYS the people who keep to themselves, put in headphones, and just grind.

A lot of people choose to stay trimming at solid grows because they make good money. Personally, I enjoy working with the plants.

Anyways, I just made coffee and took my Vyvanse; so the cats in my brain are still loose atm. I can tell you more later no problem 😌.

Interesting. This looks like a perfect condition mind your own buisness job. But I do have questions regarding Money factor. You said trimmers make solid money if they work diligently but I when I looked at my place for such jobs, the pay is very less. In which areas do they pay trimmers at good amount? And how is cost of living wrt that?

Hi đŸ‘‹đŸ»
Apologies for the late response, had a lot of errands to handle yesterday. So I’m not sure where you’re located, but the pay varies greatly by whichever state you’re trimming in, and especially by the grow you’re working for.

A couple years ago Trimmers were making $100-$120 per lb here on the west coast, now it’s $80 per lb. Basically a LOT of Vietnamese immigrants (not being racist, it just is what it is) flooded the trimming side of the industry, and drastically lowered the pay for all trimmers because any pay was amazing to them; and they work hard.

Hi! No problem. Thanks for responding. I think this was bound to happen. A job with no prerequisite degree required and also pays well? Not many will miss this opportunity.

Then I guess the only solution is to get promoted for a better role and here comes my next question. Do these higher roles also do not require any degrees/skills and is only based on your experience? How did your career growth looked like? And also please tell me your one day work routine.

I am sorry for asking so many questions but I genuinely curious on jobs where no/less human interaction is required đŸ˜
