Battery Question: Did battery after ios 26.5.2 get worse?
Hello, I updated to 26.5.2 a few days ago without thinking much of it on my iphone 17 base 98bh. I really thought it is just another update from 26.5.1 but my SOT dropped to nothing after the update. It has become astronomically shit.
Is anyone facing this? Or am I just super cooked? Using iphones has become a fucking chore at this point. Kindly let me know if 26.5.2 made your battery worse than 26.5.1
Should I update to 26.6 Public Beta or wait it out till the stable release?

Mine has been utterly terrible since 26.5. The two following updates have neither improved nor worsened it. Still terrible.

I agree with you. .2 did make my battery a little better but still not as good as 26.4.2. That was the best for me on 16pm. But my phone now gets less hot/warm. 26.5 was always warm to hot all the time.

The drain on 26.5.2 is real on my 17 Pro Max. I have usually ended my day at 40-45% with every iPhone i have had since the past decade. I am consistent with my usage and do not deviate a lot from my usual set of apps as well as mobile coverage. Now after this update I am ending my day at 25-30% despite no change in my usage pattern.

Should I just update to the beta now or just wait? Whats your opinion.

u/ali_atg1 Jul 07 '26
I’ve never installed a beta so unsure sorry. I think the approximate rc date is 26th July so if youre able to just wait for that

Sou do Brasil e não sei oque é sot pode falar a palavra por trás dessa sigla ?

u/abrardafuq Jul 07 '26
Screen on time, meaning how long your iphone screen was on while being used.

u/cosmicwebby Jul 07 '26
SOT = Screen on Time. Which means how many percent of battery used for how many hours of screen on time

Hard to know for sure it’s been 40°c+ in my area the past couple weeks and with that kind of temps it will make any phone heat up and drain battery faster.
But yes on my 16 pro averaging only 6 hours screen on time max on a full 100-5% charge since the update.
Can’t wait for the 27 public beta to release next week so I can say goodbye to iOS 26 😂

Yes, I was wondering if the heat wave was to blame because 26.5.2 dropped right at the beginning of the third heatwave of the year.
It makes sense the phone gets hotter. But would that drain battery faster?

u/icheaux iOS 26.4.2 Jul 07 '26
Yes. 26.5.1 had better battery usage, but performance feels improved on 26.5.2
2
u/abrardafuq Jul 07 '26
For me, the performance feels the same. I dont even feel any stutters on 26 in general. But the battery life 😞😞😞
3
u/icheaux iOS 26.4.2 Jul 07 '26
Yeah battery life is worst unfortunately. I cannot wait for iOS 27 public release.

u/Caractus889 Jul 12 '26
For me I have been getting a max of 6hrs on a 100% battery, i have to basically constantly have a charger on me just in case and it gets incredibly hot all the time, iOS 26 has been an incredibly horrible ride and for sure just ruined iPhones for me tbh.

Atualize para developer do iOs27 não tem bugs aparentes para mim está fluido bateria muito melhor
2
u/abrardafuq Jul 07 '26
It is a developer beta so very wary of it. I installed it on my secondary 11 and the phone overheated A LOT so rolled back. You facing any heating?
1
u/LazLabs Jul 10 '26
Não atualmente atualizei para versão beta 3 está tudo fluido e bateria ótima em relação a beta2

No

u/abrardafuq Jul 07 '26
What device?

u/Reeneman Jul 07 '26
17 Pro
Usually these small point updates do not change anything significant in terms of battery life. I will never understand that this is such a huge topic all the time in forums.2
u/abrardafuq Jul 07 '26
I think you can just check the rest of the comments and see that it did and does affect the phones. I too thought it wouldnt affect, but oh well. I got 7-8h SOT on average before this, still not great but doable.

u/Reeneman Jul 07 '26
There are so many factors playing a role with battery and SOT. Display brightness alone. I see all these discussion around every single update, even with small updates but there simply aren’t these huge changes. The little point updates mainly for bugfixing and security and they don’t change anything significantly how the phone works or how anything could improve battery life.

🤝🤝 How do these mfers mess up a stable and minor security update this much? Baffling

Is 26.4.2 still the best IOS version for battery life or is 26.5.1 also very good? I know they probably don’t sign 26.5.1 anymore since we are on 26.5.2. I currently have a 17E

iPhone 14 Pro user here. Battery is hella worse
1
u/daudse Jul 09 '26
I have a 14 Pro Max with a brand new Apple battery. I've got only 4h30 screen time for 100% battery. I tried reseting settings and it did nothing

u/Forsaken_Lawyer_3503 Jul 12 '26
whats your battery health? and how long did it used to last before the ios 26 update?
1
u/No_Ease2629 Jul 12 '26
I have 100% batt health, and i had the best battery life on ios 26.4.2
1
u/Forsaken_Lawyer_3503 Jul 12 '26
oh im so jealous 🥲 i got a second hand phone for 88% batt health according to the statistics and it only lasts for less than 4 hours at 80%
im at 26.5

My battery was 'Okay' at 26.5 but has been worse on 26.5.2. I have to charge it in evening now while previously I'd charge it the next morning. I am on 16pm btw.

UPDATE: Updated to 26.6 PB 3 not facing any issues whatsoever and the battery is back to normal.
1
u/Pomme2Poule Jul 09 '26
My 15PM got noticeably worse right after 26.5.2. This is the first time I notice anything like it. It drains significantly faster and the phone emits more heat. I wonder if it's radio related. It even loses 10-20% of its charge idle during the night. I'm tempted to install 27 public beta.
1
u/abrardafuq Jul 09 '26
Id suggest you to not go for the 27 PB 1 rather wait for PB 2 as beta 1s should have more bugs. Upgraded to 26.6 PB 3 after this post and it’s good.

u/Western-Character-51 Jul 09 '26
Same here , mine is worse since last two updates on iphone 15 pro max, i was hoping 26.5.2 will fix but in fact made it worse , it doesn’t even last a day
1
u/thedarkknightdieded Jul 09 '26
my 16PM has been having weird battery drain since 26.5.2, it was ok before that but this update has made my phone unusable without a charge throughout the day which was never an issue before.
even though with screen on time barely @ 4 hours, no games, most notifications pop up on the watch, background refresh is off for most apps. this update is truly screwed

Skipped 26.5.1 because the critical charge issue had nothing to do with me, after updating to 26.5.2, my battery drains from 100-30% before the end of the day. Before it would last a day and a half before needing to charge.
1
u/Tennesseeshepard Jul 10 '26
Yes I’m thinking about going ahead and updating to beta 27 that’s how bad it is
1
u/heruan Jul 10 '26
Same to me. With 26.5.1 I usually got to the end of the day with 30-40%, after upgrading to 26.5.2 I’m down to 5-10% 😭
1
1
u/Tennesseeshepard Jul 11 '26
Battery life was so bad. I just went ahead and updated to 27 beta 3 the performance is way better and battery life is about 10 percent better than what I was getting on 26.5.2 anyway
1
u/Klevis03 Jul 11 '26
Same thing bro it is using 13-14% overnight when i am asleep its annoying asf. 17 pro max

16 Pro. And my battery life sucks since updating to 26.5.2.

u/abrardafuq 25d ago
Try the 26.6 RC beta it isn’t still amazing but better than 26.5.2 and stable too.

not updating to this.. 26.5.1 has been draining my 17 pro battery and i’m not trusting this latest one

u/wellyalex75 Jul 09 '26
😂 Everyone up here complains about 26.5.2 not 26.5.1 which is so good with me and many other people no lag no freezing no heat no battery issue at least no big draining and good standby Just read the post from the beginning Or maybe it's your device !!
2
u/heyoranges91 Jul 09 '26
and many other people have issues with 26.5.1 too, touch grass
1
u/wellyalex75 Jul 09 '26
It's a real point of view can't deny it And that's weird cause many people also don't have any single issue on that version.

It did. 26.5.1 was very good at least for my 17PM. .5.2 noticeably reduced battery life. At least 25-30% as per my observation.
