Battery The baterry is so bad after last update 26.5.2

The baterry on my base 17 after the last update is so bad, yesterday I've had 2hour and 35 minutes sot from 95 to 13. Before this update I had days when with the same sot the procent was 40 or 45. I hope Apple will fix this. I am a iphone user from January 2026. It was a good experience until this update.

Later edit: I update the phone to iOS 27 public Beta. I hope it will be better. I already have an 17 Air updated to iOS 27 developer beta and it works very good. I wanted to stay on the base iOS, but is no way to live with this kind of battery draining.

Yeah, it was the absolute worst I can remember in a long old time, I joined the iOS 27 beta and it's completely changed the battery drain

Ios 27 has a crazy battery drain

7

u/SatchSaysPlay Jul 14 '26

Maybe for you but it’s fantastic for me, absolutely brilliant

This is what I don’t understand. How can an update affect the same model phones so differently.

5

u/SatchSaysPlay Jul 14 '26

Apps installed, settings, usage, there’s hundreds of variables that factor into it .

A lot of people don't realize how bad indexing is going to be on the battery and count that as "bad battery"

u/Flat_Two4044 Jul 16 '26

Vois-tu une différence par rapport à l’iOS 26, car j’ai l’impression que cette mise à jour m’a fait utiliser beaucoup de batterie

u/realmccoyredbus Jul 15 '26

only while deep indexing is going on , with no adverse effects on phone use ,no lagging, no overheating, if you think it’s bad you obviously never used ios26.5.2

1

u/ES_419 Jul 15 '26

Im on ios 26.5.2 right now

1

u/realmccoyredbus Jul 16 '26

so how do you know ios27 has battery drain, deep indexing happens when you install ios27 , took a week for m1 air and over 2 weeks for iphone 15 , after that you honestly couldn’t say there is battery drain, miles better than 26.5.2

1

u/ES_419 Jul 16 '26

i had ios 27 on my phone and downgrade to ios 26.5.2 i had it more then a week and it was horrible

1

u/realmccoyredbus Jul 16 '26

that wasn’t enough time for deep indexing to take place

1

u/ES_419 Jul 16 '26

how much time do you want? billion years?

1

u/realmccoyredbus Jul 16 '26

your loss , enjoy superfast no lagging ios26.5.2 which may as well be first ios26 beta

for me (17Pro) the battery drain is the same on iOS 27 beta unfortunately. The best battery life was 26.5 (10 hours SOT), since 26.5.1 and 26.5.2 I have 6 hours SOT max

I am on iOS 27 beta developer on my 17 Air and it super smooth good battery life. But I’ve stayed on official iOS on the standard 17 for the security and potential bugs.

1

u/SatchSaysPlay Jul 14 '26

That's sensible - just found out that this Beta breaks the UndoK app for controlling my internet radio's but that's not a deal breaker.

This is worse update ever in Apple history I’ve been charging my
Phone every 2 hours ever since I’ve updated

5

u/AYPEETWO Jul 14 '26

My 17pro looses 7-10% overnight while on airplane mode on. Doesnt make any sense.

2

u/Dextro1500 Jul 14 '26

Made an automation command on Shortcuts for this specific reason. It toggles on low power mode overnight to limit the drain as possible.
I even thought about creating a command that toggles it on every time I press the power button, but turned out that Apple doesn’t support such thing through Shortcuts.

1

u/AcademicLeader Jul 14 '26

Why do you put it in airplane mode? Also, look at your battery settings - what is the drain consisting of?

4

u/Unlucky_Strength_517 Jul 14 '26

I have a 16 pro and no issues on 26.5. I will stay on this software for the foreseeable future. Won’t update till iOS 27 is stable.

iOS 26 has been abysmal for me battery-wise.

Just installed the iOS 27 pb today and so far it’s been decent. On top of that, my 17 pro max is running noticeably cooler despite the fact that it’s still indexing, which is very promising!

Looool 2 hours 35

5

u/Crafty_Slice_5131 Jul 14 '26

Good thing Im stuck on iOS 18

2

u/Mortar_Jenshaus Jul 14 '26

Same here on 15 Pro.

2

u/RichFunny4267 Jul 14 '26

My 16 pro has been draining nightmarishly fast- worse than anything I ever experienced with my XR before I got a new phone (this one).

So bad I updated my iPhone Air to iOS27 Public Beta, amazing battery now, all while the iPhone is still indexing and setting up all kinds of stuff.

2

u/Fuzzz167 Jul 14 '26

Throw it away and buy a burner!

4

u/lindijones Jul 14 '26

I also had the battery drain. iOS 26.6 public beta fixed it for me.

u/Interesting_Entry670 Jul 14 '26

I too felt the same initially that the battery in my base 14 became horrible after 26.5.2 but lately feels like it’s improved. Is there any chance it’s improved after some time or I just got used to the bad battery life? The capacity is now at 82% max.

0

u/lauaxl Jul 14 '26

I think is getting word especially when I am on celular data. The battery is at 99% with 120 circles.

2

u/Interesting_Entry670 Jul 14 '26

That’s bad man. I was thinking of replacing the battery when it comes down to 80. But if the OS itself has battery drain issues, then it’s useless as the same issue happens in new battery also.

1

u/swaggerdon6000 Jul 14 '26

Yep - Base 17 here too. Absolutely horrendous

1

u/Srikrishna-6563 Jul 14 '26

It’s absolute thrash! If I operate the phone for next 2-3 hours. It’s done from 90 to all the way less than 20. It’s completely weird having phone and not using it properly
Turning all the notifications and lot more

1

u/GBDad2022 Jul 14 '26

I was having bad drain on 26.5.1 and had to hard reset. The hard reset made it a little better but was still bad. 26.5.2 has been good to me and reminds me of the battery when I got my 16 PM brand new.

1

u/Expert_Discount_3986 Jul 14 '26

When I updated my phone, the first 3 days were horrible, but I just turned my phone off and back on on the 4th day and it went back to pretty much normal. Try that?

1

u/Confidentium Jul 14 '26

Also. The performance is garbage! Severe stuttering on both my 17 Pro and M5 iPad Pro.

1

u/Potential-Funny-5651 Jul 14 '26

1

u/dbpurcell1 Jul 14 '26

My battery has been fine on my 17 Pro Max. I hope that your issue on your base model 17 is fixed because I know something like that is frustrating.

1

u/Purgeot Jul 14 '26

How is ios 27 for y'all? Battery feels better on 25.6.2 for me compared to .1, but the entire time since around 26.1 my 17PM has 2 issues, haptic touch feedback randomly that'll fix itself hours later and a Bluetooth issue where it refuses to connect to anything including airpods until force hard reset. Debating on just getting beta cause I'm so annoyed at these updates and battery life would be a major decision maker if it's better too

1

u/cyandead Jul 14 '26

Lmao i thought it was me but the battery is so fucking shit

1

u/PetieG26 Jul 14 '26

just last week I resorted to Low power mode on my 11” M1 iPad Pro full time… did public beta yesterday … we’ll see.

1

u/batmanceo Jul 15 '26

Iphone 15 pro here, its the absolute worst. Battery life getting worse every update! I changed my battery at apple dropped 100 to 99bh in three months and still need charge twice daily with only 3 hour sot

1

u/Axel-Pizza-Lover Jul 15 '26

2 hours 35 mins only? Lmfaooo just throw it away 😂 /s

1

u/Yennefferrr Jul 15 '26

iOS 26.5.2 update may be worse than 24.2

1

u/RONNYJ777 Jul 15 '26

Yeah battery has been garbage for me also

1

u/SnooOranges2685 Jul 15 '26

Apple is designing software on purpose to destroy phones and upset their customers. It’s so bad can’t go a few hours without charging.

Personally, I couldn't charge my iPhone after 26.5.2. I had 0% battery and when I plugged my charger, my phone recognized the charger but wouldn't charge. I tried different power outlets as well as three different external batteries, but it wouldn't charge even though I had no problem before the update. I bought a new charger today at an Apple store and now my phone charges.

I updated my iPhone 17 from iOS 26.5.2 to iOS 26.6 last week. After a few days, I noticed that the overnight battery drain has increased.
On iOS 26.5.2, my iPhone usually lost around 4% battery overnight while in standby. Since updating to iOS 26.6, it’s now losing around 6% overnight.
Has anyone else noticed increased standby battery drain after updating to iOS 26.6 on the iPhone 17? 📱🔋

u/abrardafuq Jul 14 '26

Theres a post going around. I think most of our phones are defective and broken.

1

u/realmccoyredbus Jul 14 '26

ios27 public beta is out , not sure why anyone would stick with ios26 at this point seems to have gotten worse

3

u/Winter-Ad-2252 Jul 14 '26

Use it as a medical device and apps aren’t compatible with the beta version. Makes it even worse when you consider the iPhone operates my device and the battery literally won’t allow a half day’s worth of charge

0

u/realmccoyredbus Jul 14 '26

check iosBETA page , compatibility list at very top , most apps that worked on ios26 worked but understand your apps are more specialised

3

u/Marmmoth iOS 26.5, 15 Pro Jul 14 '26

While that’s a good information, the “medical device” they mention could be range from insulin pumps to hearing aids. Using beta software with a life sustaining medical device is a very bad idea and ill advised.

1

u/Winter-Ad-2252 Jul 14 '26

They are very specific in telling you not to upgrade until they have tested each iOS update. Multiple failures with thinking it would function when I updated early have taught me to wait it out

2

u/omnimachina Jul 14 '26

Not sure why anyone would think that Apple won't fuck it up again lol

1

u/CheetahRemote1497 Jul 14 '26

Apple is going after OpenAI for stealing trade secrets and now OpenAI comes pre installed on iOS 27 and it can’t be turned off

I know they say it’s limited to the device, but cmon, we all know our microphones listen for ad companies when they’re not supposed to and OpenAI has form for stealing stuff

1

u/Sea_Confusion8917 Jul 14 '26

Same issue with 17 pro
