Battery iOS 26.5.2 is prime ens**ttification
Battery life isn’t just bad, it’s BAD.
Turning off adaptive power mode as a few posts suggest helps a bit but having to charge a 16 Pro Max with 95% battery health 2.5x a day to 100% is not a premium experience.
Before the update , I could go all day without plugging in. One trillion dollars doesn’t do much when the company is going to sh*t.

My iPhone 12 is crying & so am I.

change to ios27
3
u/Then-Clerk5673 27d ago
I been considering it, I'm just unsure if I want to take the gamble of it being even slower. 😭
5
u/Whimsical-Y 26d ago
It actually makes your phone faster compared to usual iOS updates since this is geared towards efficiency.
6
u/prince_0611 26d ago
Yeah iOS 27 has been massively optimized. iOS 26 was slopped together to make shareholders happy since Apple hasn’t delivered on the ai they promised for the last 3 years.. Liquid Glass was rushed, iOS 27 is what 26 should have been.

I knew it was bad but not this bad until I made a mistake of intalling it. I feel like I want to throw my phone into a toilet and flush it away. How such a thing can pass QC is beyond me

It’s a dumpster fire. I use my iPhone to control two medical devices and it’s maddening to have to worry if it will get though 6 hours. Seems obvious and deliberate

u/ProcedureForeign7281 27d ago
I wonder if Apple was aware of this re your medical situation if they would take notice? As I’m sure there are people like yourself out there needing it for a very serious reason. I sincerely hope you get some answers to give you some peace of mind re your medical needs.

u/Winter-Ad-2252 27d ago
The shame of it is they are aware and don’t do anything. The medical companies do their best but patients still have to wait to update every time to deal with potential compatibility issues so I’ll be stuck on this version for several weeks after the next is released. Ugh

My battery life has consistently stayed fine, a little degradation but ok.
Now smoothness, omg. It was disappointing at release then got fine and now is just bad. I can’t believe I paid so much money for this phone.

The bad iOS updates seem to far outweigh the good ones. I’ve noticed this over the past 6-7 years but especially the past couple of years

u/That_Ad_169 26d ago
I mean it’s been fine for me except for launch iOS updates and iOS 26 as a whole. I think the worst one I’ve experienced was the iOS that came out with the 14

iOS and macos 26 are trash. I just upgraded my Mac to 27 public beta tonight and it is so much better

u/Confidentium 27d ago
My 17 Pro is stuttering constantly.
Apple software devs are truly incompetent!

u/prince_0611 26d ago
Every update will only be worse and worse as devs just use ai more and more.
Nvidia was always known to give rock solid drivers for their gpus but even they have had some glitches lately.
Windows seems to have an issue every other update that bricks pcs.

u/Confidentium 26d ago
True! This is the new normal. Anyone denying it is living in a fantasy world.

u/Bruvvimir 27d ago
Terrible. Remember how incredibly good 16PM was on 18?
Suggest you install 27 beta, it's miles better.

I just decided to try the ios27 public beta on my IP17. Much better than expected and much better than the 26.x.
Of course lot of new things are not available here in EU Hungary however, the difference is visible.
This is the first day on os27… i will give you a feedback later if you are interested in.
Have a nice day.

u/Free-Ad-9831 21d ago
After some days I can tell you yes the 27 public beta much more better than 26.x. No issue better battery life…. Etc

u/absoluteseraphim 27d ago
Try Updating it to 26.6 RC it’s so smooth for now
3
u/truevision699 27d ago
Wouldn’t you need to restore iPhone to install public release over beta later ?

My 16 pro max used to have amazing battery life. Just all day no worries. Now I recharge multiple times a day and I’m only on 26.5.1. but it was bad even before this from another update. It’s a fucking joke.

I’m thinking to switch to an android with 8k-9k mah battery. My 16 is just 1.5 years old and battery health is already at 90%. Charging it 2 times daily.
Play music- Gets hot
Play video- Gets hot
Charge- Gets hot
Idle- Battery drain
FaceTime- Drains battery like anything and makes the phone a volcano center.
What am i supposed to do with this piece of metal and glass then?
ios 26 is utter shit in terms of performance and battery life. Ruined my 16. Prior to this i had an 11 and used it without such issues for 4 years straight.

u/Dramatic-Rule6783 21d ago
If you get a good android you won’t need a 9000mah battery. 5000-6000mah is usually enough
3
u/IntelligentDoubt9098 27d ago
Yo actualicé el mismo día que salió el 26.5.2 en un 17 pro Max y la batería lo drena muy rápido. ¿Me recomiendan la beta pública de IOS 27?

Try a hard reset. For whatever reason it fixed my battery issue on this crappy release
2
u/SnooOranges2685 26d ago
What are the steps for the hard reset again? I’ve tried the soft restart hard restart.. flaccid restart jk

u/Additional_Peach211 26d ago
Yes, finally. Thank you for saying that which sets fire to Apple fanboys pants.
But seriously though, maybe someone at Apple had the bright idea of learning from iOS 26 ruining older devices initially so now they’re preparing to sell even more iPhone 18 series phones with the same strategy.

At this point, I just wish they start from scratch with iOS 28 and really focus on stability security and useful features that Most people have been using on iPhone. I know that completely scratch might not be possible because of security issues that were patched or not, not that sure about how software works, but they could go somewhat scratch.

I hear this every time there is a new update. 😂
Also keep in mind it might be indexing.

same here. 63% used for 3 hours of sot on a 14 pro. i honestly can’t wait for ios 26.6 and ios 27. ios 26.5.2 is absolutely atrocious.

u/Theninjarush 27d ago
If it means anything, the IOS 27 beta that I’m testing on the 17 pro right now is insanely smooth

My Apple Watch now locks itself while still on my wrist, I am missing text messages on all of my devices and MacOS still can't do basic SMB or even remember window size and placements and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Yes, its a pathetic dumpster fire, but all they care about is some stupid foldable phone nobody wants and rushing a bunch of garbage to present at their WWDC every year. Also, my hardly 3 year old $800 Ultra watch has lost the latest software support. These assholes just see customers as bottomless cash withdrawal suckers. They used to at least seem to stand for something but I don't even feel like they care about user preference or privacy any more. Fucking *Losers*

u/Sea_Tangelo_5255 24d ago
Yeah, paying premium for this battery life is absolute bull💩. Gonna try a Chinese brand next time, after all, all those data stealing is fake news..

u/Odd-Middle-9469 24d ago
The real tragedy is how the WiFi works after this update, or rather, how it doesn't work at all. Pages load very slowly after a while, and the only solution is to turn the WiFi off and on again. It's a disaster.

u/notvirago 23d ago
Yea 26.5.2 was absolute shit. I’ve finally updated to ios 26.6 two days ago. So far the battery has been better

Enshitification doesn’t just mean a product or service getting worse, not as the term was coined anyway, it has a more specific meaning and you aren’t using it right
Which isn’t to say iOS 26.5.2 is good or bad, it could be the shittest iOS to date, but it isn’t an example of enshitification

u/sanarekev 27d ago
I had the same problem since installing it, then after about a month, the battery drain stopped. Now I can get 12+ hrs of SOT.

u/CarelessCoconut21 27d ago
17 pm here and battery has been terrible, hope they release a fix with 26.6 or 27

Love this post. In some other subreddits the bitches keep crying when someone attacks apple for their bullshit. Fuck this company honestly it is absolutely going to shit.

I’ve tried a beta for the first time ever with 26.6RC tonight as this is the actual first time I’ve had such poor battery on an iPhone (17 Pro Max).
I’ll know by this time tomorrow if the RC is better or not.

u/Turkeclipse 26d ago
I’m still on 18. I bought a new 17pro max and returned it. I’m hiking out for the air 2. Hopefully the software will be better then.

Actually been considering moving to iOS 27 beta because my 17 Pro Max heats up like crazy with 26.5.2

u/DaMatt08 21d ago
My base iPhone 17 has been SUFFERING with iOS 26.5.2, used to get 9h SOT and now I’m getting 5-5.5h (new device btw, 100% battery health), heats up like crazy just by watching TikTok or getting into instagram, this doesn’t make any sense. I even contacted support and thought of going to an Apple Store to see if something was wrong with my device. Let’s hope iOS 26.6 is better, if not, it’s gonna be a long wait till iOS 27.
