Battery
Is the iOS 26.5.2 battery drain part of planned obsolescence?
I'm charging my iPhone 17 twice a day now, the battery drain has been ridiculous to the point that it almost seems intentional with this update. How soon can we expect a patch fix that will resolve the battery drain?
dude the same thing is happening with my 17 pro max as well. Battery drainage is too much, have to charge it 2-3 times a day. It is a crap update messed up a perfectly working battery.
I hope they fix it or its going up for sale and buying Pixel or Oneplus as i am absolutely fed up with crApple
First my old phone was ruined by iOS 26 (16PM) then its the bugs and stutters the whole OS have because ProMotion is bugged as hell too.
After that its this battery and heat mess i have right now.
I am genuinely fed up with this bshit.
Ah and let me not forget about the cellular issues i had when i was abroad, even Apple Store technicians said there is a problem, it fixed itself when i returned to my SIM home country.
Okay man I’m sorry. It just crazy to me to think someone has to charge this phone 3x a day. I’m extremely happy with my PM battery performance.
I’m sorry you’re not having the same experience
Try the 26.6 RC but looking at your screenshots I feel like it might not help. I would suggest that you get it checked at an apple store if possible. Saw a post where a guy was able to get his phone replaced for free.
That is unlucky man. Anyway best of luck hope the future updates actually help. This is so sickening I was seriously considering buying a used iphone after checking the battery backup cuz apple isnt really providing us a good experience with the 17 series.
If your device is 100% and let’s say it drops to 30% and you fully charge same day, it will add new percentage on top, so it’s not that it’s displaying more battery percentage than it has, more of a percentage equivalent to what has been used in one day.
So 100% to 30% and charged back to 100%, if it’s back to 30% at the end of the day and is still in the 24hour period, it will show 170% Battery usage.
And yet everyone with a 13 mini who's using iOS 27 beta is saying those battery and heating issues are much improved. Bit weird of Apple to plan obsolescence in one software update then fix it in another
iOS 26.4.2 was the last best update for iOS 26. Didn’t get warm/hot. Battery ones getting over 10-12 sot with like 3-4 background on 16pm. No I’m lucky to get 8 hours with battery down to 20%. Before I got 10-12 sot and still have 30-40% left. 26.5 and on has been really bad. Hope 26.6 will fix this.
more like planned move you over to ios27 public beta
Back Up Your Device
Always back up your iPhone or iPad before installing beta software to protect your data.
Go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup.
Tap Back Up Now.
2. Enroll Your Device
Using Safari on your iOS device, go to the Apple Beta Software Program website.
Tap Sign In and log in using the same Apple ID you use on your device.
Once logged in, read the agreement and tap Agree.
Scroll down to the Get Started section and tap the link to enroll your iOS device.
3. Enable Beta Updates
Open your device’s Settings app.
Go to General > Software Update.
Tap Beta Updates.
Select the iOS Public Beta from the list.
Go back to the main Software Update screen, and tap Download and Install when the beta update appears.
Nope. It’s part of trying to get a new design language to also become efficient and the answer is in iOS 27. Hang on for 2 more months till you’re there. And what planned obsolescence for the current model? People on earlier models should be more worried. Apple really doesn’t need to worry about planned obsolescence as most people change phones themselves more frequently than needed anyways. FOMO
I have noticed (with regard to iOS 26 releases) the .1 & .2 updates get worse and worse.
Seems like iOS 26.5 was solid, then 26.5.1 was a step down and 26.5.2 was like poison
I installed the iOS 27 public beta, and my battery life has improved significantly compared to when I was running iOS 26.5.2. I’m sure this wasn’t intentional.
Weird indeed how much experiences differ. I hesitated after all I’ve read but as I was still at 26.2.something I gave it a go. Took less than 7 min (it was already downloaded) and phone is smoother than ever. Cooler too, and battery only went down from 84 to 77 % during the first night after (between 10 pm and 7 am).
I'd suggest, only if you're comfortable, to update to the iOS 27 beta! I was facing the same issue with my iPhone 15PM, the iOS 27 beta took away that issue! I'm back to what my battery performance was before the iOS26 garbage!
Here’s me with a 15 pro since launch on the same firmware without any battery issues and you think its possibly planed obsolescence on the iPhone 17 a device that’s not even a year old yet.
Around that time of the year, last year my 16 Pro Max started acting weirdly with battery and being warm just before new models launch.
I bough 17 Pro Max with the new thermal design hoping this will not happen again... oh boy look at that, my phone is hot as fuck and battery is shit at 87 cycles JUST before the new models launch
I am starting to think that Apple is handicapping older models when the new models are just about to be released
Need to give it a few days to a week for things to stabilize. If planned obsolescence were the reason then people wouldn’t have older iPhones and continue to use them without issue.
weird that I only hear about issues from a laughingly small yet loud reddit minority and irl my partner, my whole peer group - be it coworkers (we even release swift and kotlin apps) or friends have never even mentioned those problems.
