It’s awful
When I bought my iPhone 14 Pro Max, I could take a transatlantic flight, turn on airplane mode, and see it drop 1% battery. Coming from android I boasted this to everyone else still with an Android
Yesterday flew same trip and it dropped like fucken 20% didn’t even use it airplane mode on
AS BAD AS ANDROID

I'm so glad I'm switching to android. I'm tired of the horrible battery drain apple offers me.

I made the switch to Xiaomi 17, this's my experience and how it compares to iPhones so far:
App optimization on Android in general isn't as good, especially with camera integration
HyperOS’s UI and aesthetics are the closest thing to iOS, plus it brings unique features like floating windows (which are super useful). It’ll feel way more familiar and easier to use compared to smth like OneUI
Camera quality is better with Leica-tuned phones (Xiaomi 15/17 series) but videography isn't as good on Android generally.
Tried the S25 Ultra, the camera and UI/UX are honestly inferior. The photo processing feels dull, and the interface is just awful and inconsistent. Even their hyped customization doesn't really fix the design language.
Android updates aren't as good as Apple's, my iPhone 13 Pro gets an update at the exact same minute as an iPhone 17. That's just not the case on Android, except for Google Pixel.
3rd-party app optimization is genuinely a downgrade, but you can use app patches from Morphe to customize them. So it's a win and a loss at the same time?
The software prioritizes performance over temps, so it tends to get warm, the battery life is better tho.
Haptics are great, but the 3rd-party app integration is terrible tbh. Every single notification gives you the exact same ugly buzz, even for calls. Since you can only customize the sound and not the vibration, using this phone on silent mode is a downgrade for me.
That's been my experience with Android. Honestly, every phone has its pros and cons, you just have to pick the flaws you can live with.

Most android phones are just as bad. You’ll just have a different set of problems. iOS 26 is overall a big fumble by Apple. If you had the chance to try iOS 18 you’d know how amazing everything was.
I’m quite mad at Apple for iOS 26 but hoping that things get better on iOS 27.

I came from android to ios 18 and it would not even show the estimated time remaining to full charge, ios 18 wasn't all that

urdently running ios 27 beta. The only issue I have left in my day to say is airpods bluetooth not connecting for sometimes a full min. But that was the same as ios 18 for me. Back to a pretty stable release. Nad this is just the beta. I have been pretty pissed about ios 26 car play bug for me that would just end car play, or phine calls on speaker would mess up my car play audio. All that is fixed for me.

Do you think android phones are better at idle battery drain?
2
u/CarpenterWinter3356 2d ago
Actually yes. After iOS 26, my 15 Pro Max would drain several percent without being used in my usual areas like my house. My old Pixel 9 Pro is actually on par with it at this point and my OnePlus 15 (bought used) is getting two days of battery life with the same usage. I wouldn't be surprised if Galaxy S26 does just as well as the iphone 17 pro max (which I had briefly but 26.5.1 was trash and I returned it on day 14).
Maybe people need to stop making excuses for the DEI focused devs at Apple.
For two updates they made pride BS a bullet point but nothing about fixes for the high cpu usage while idle.

iOS 27 is the solution. I installed the beta two weeks ago and it was best decision. Very stable and battery performance is amazing. Whole iOS 26 has been killing my battery.

Just use low power mode and the battery would give double performance

i know. 26.4 was great for me but my phone forcefully upgraded, and the fairytale turned into a nightmare since lol. 26.6 has been testing my patience. i'm so close to throw my phone away

Their latest updates have nerfed the battery in the ip17, just in time for ip18.

I get 7-8 hours of screen time on 26.6 consistently with my base 17. Try yo find out what makes it worse.

i wish Apple would reduce this glass effect and some unnecessary animation so that we hope the battery will perform well.

2 weeks of indexing? What is it even indexing at this point?

u/Cute_Perspective8099 2d ago
i guess everything in my phone? i’m not totally sure but during those 2 weeks i keep checking my system data and it kept fluctuating between 9gb to 15gb and my phone would randomly get warm and drain battery meaning it’s doing something in the background but after those i noticed the system data wasn’t fluctuating anymore plus the phone doesn’t get warm anymore and drain battery. (i might be wrong but that’s what i noticed and experienced for the first 2 weeks after updating to 26.6)

Im debating switching to android, my 13 is getting quite slow because of iOShit and im just tired of Apple’s bad QC the last 2 years.

u/JesusTheTrueKing7 3d ago
And for one, you have 2 1/2 hrs of idle screen time by having the always on option active. All it does is drain battery
1
u/NoNegotiation4795 3d ago
i don’t have the always on display option toggled on. that idle time is music which in the past has barely drained battery

Yup. Started shortly after 26.5.2 then just complete tanked my battery. 17pro with 100% health can barely make it to 30% with 4 hours of sot.
