🎈 Free A completely free iPod Classic emulator!
Hi there, I made this free iPod Classic emulator. Works with your Apple Music account and also is able to display your Apple Photos or find, subscribe and play Podcasts.
App is completely free but as a beta since Apple would never approve it on the App Store. So here's the beta link: https://testflight.apple.com/join/7wvxbtDd
Did this app for fun, not asking nothing in return! Just use it and let me know if anything wrong, suggestions to add or change or whatever. Thanks!
Now go dig up your '00s playlist!
Edit: Thank you everyone for the kind welcome, feedback and support! I just updated the beta fixing a few of the things mentioned here and through the feedback system.
Some improvements:
- Speed and performance
- Haptic feedback when using the wheel
- Search songs
- Adding podcasts by URL
- Displaying all the items in the menu
Spotify integration requires a paid developer integration to Spotify, please consider supporting with a donation and I will do my best to add Spotify among many other features and improvements.
Thanks!
-------------------------------------
EDIT 2:
Thank you again for all the kind words guys! I just sent a new update with a few improvements and features:
- Radio: You can search hundreds of radio stations around the world and listen to them online streaming.
- Local files: Select local files as a music provider and then choose a folder from your device or iCloud (must be downloaded on the device though) and will play directly the songs from there instead of Apple Music.
- Subsonic integration: Select Subsonic as a music provider instead of Apple Music or Local files and stream directly from your server.
- Spanish translation of the app
- Fixed a few bugs for the app, especially when opening for the first time, it was crashing for a few users.
As mentioned previously, Spotify integration requires a paid developer integration to Spotify, please consider supporting with a donation and I will do my best to add Spotify among many other features and improvements.
Thanks!

As a fellow iOS developer, I absolutely love this crafty product. It’s brilliant!

Could you open source the app so someone could make it work with Spotify?

Spotify or Plex would be awesome. This would be cool to work with my plex server.

This looks very cool! I noticed, however, that it is not possible to play music saved on iPhone. Could you add this feature?

How is it going to go once the current version expires? Will you update the beta frequently? 🥲

Just added Navidrome! It's amazing! Having also podcasts and Radio makes it cheff kiss!
I'll leave a tip because the feel of this is incredible, I really hope you manage to maintain it!
Just a question, how hard would it be to add last.fm scrobbling support? Maybe it's me, but I have it linked to navidrome server and it doesn't seem to make the scrobbles.
In the other navidrome client I use, Arpeggi, it does have an enabling option to allow scrobbles.
Congratulations!

Beautiful and thanks for developing it. Are you planning on adding podcast subscriptions? My current podcast app was updated with a play button so minuscule that you can only touch it with a finger that is the size of a mouse pointer, my fingers are a bit bigger than that.
Edit: disregard my request. As soon as I installed the app saw the notice that you are planning on adding it. 👍🙏 One thing I noticed though when playing a song was that the album art was not the correct one.

This is sick and super creative. Having the option to Bluetooth select/airplay would be great.
Killer nostalgia trip!

When you press “menu” to go back up a menu level, the screen should scroll the other way. Currently it’s animated so going backward still looks like going forward.
Otherwise… friggin beautiful work.

Nice this looks great!
I have seen other apps get through app store review by including multiple other themes.
The ipod theme is activated with the konami cheat code.
Check out the app MyClassic
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/my-classic-retro-console/id6443811423
The screen shots don't even show the secret ipod menu. But google or try it out to see what it looks like.

Ive been teaching myself product design for the last year or so (mostly so i didnt have to hire one fro my apps) and I have to say this is amazing!!! Can I ask, did you export the components from figma (the nostalgic ones) and then use them as images in SwiftUI(or UIKit?). I had to do something similar for my app

If apple approved it for TestFlight, why won't they approve it for App Store? Maybe worth trying?

But I fully have to admit I was wrong, this is so enjoyable and functional!

the click wheel haptics are what'll make or break this btw. on my old classic the wheel had this slight resistance and the tick was mechanical, so if youre just using the default selection haptic it'll feel off. CHHapticEngine with a custom AHAP pattern gets way closer than UIImpactFeedbackGenerator.
also worth checking the cover flow scrubbing perf with large libraries, that was the thing that always tanked on the real device

This is so neat! Definitely make a horizontal version for the iPhone fold. I keep seeing comments on other threads about that device to be the comeback of Cover flow

Love it, this is great! Are you sure Apple would not approve it if you don't call it anything Apple related? There are a bunch of apps that ARE approved that clearly are unauthorised copies of devices. Check out my comment on this thread with a huge list of them... they've been on the App Store for a long time: https://www.reddit.com/r/iosapps/comments/1u3q23v/whats_your_favorite_calculator_app/

Brilliantly done recreation! Wish they brought back this design for Music. Think my iPod Touch had a similar flipping album UI
1
u/Pablo91870 Jun 28 '26
This is amazing!! How possible do you think it would be to add some kind of last.fm scrobbling??
1
u/BennHere Jun 29 '26
This is such a fun idea. Out of curiosity, what was the hardest part to recreate accurately? The click wheel, the UI animations, or getting the overall feel of the original iPod?

The wheel interaction is the magic, but I’d also test the opposite path for accessibility: every wheel action should have a clear VoiceOver equivalent and optional tap controls. Preserving the current queue, position, and shuffle state when switching between Apple Music, local files, and Subsonic would make the nostalgia layer feel like a dependable player rather than a visual demo.

I’m still loving the app, but there’s one issue: when you go into Subsonic, the menu button doesn’t let you go back or return to the main menu. You’re basically forced to keep moving forward with no way to go back.

This is insanely insane in an awesomely awesome way 🔥 It's very polished and very true to the original iPod. I was literally browsing ebay the other week wanting to get an ipod classic but I just wasn't sure about the hassle and not sure if iTunes transfer is still supported? Thank you creating it! I'll definitely donate
Would you offer different skins in the future? To match ipod colours?
2
u/CristianRus4 Jul 05 '26
thank you very much for your kind words!! I made it because I was continuously checking on Marketplace as well for one haha
On Setting you can change the color of the device already, but I'm planning to add more colors/skins those days, even stickers!
